SOCIAL WORK INTERNSHIP (MASTER LEVEL) - LGSH

Position Summary: The LGSH Social Work Master Level Intern assist with providing quality case management, educational workshops and community resources for participants (pre-residential, in residence, and post-residential) of the LGSH program. The LGSH Social Work Master Level Intern will also provide all services through a Strengths Based and Trauma-Informed lenses and attend all Strengths Based and trauma-informed service trainings for NKCAC staff.

Hours: This position is an unpaid internship working 15-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow and adhere to the Social Work Code of Ethics as outlined by the National Association of Social Workers.
  • Observe and assist in applicant orientation sessions, workshops for those going through the application process, and track applicant progress toward residential candidacy.
  • Observe and assist in the completion of housing interviews and psychosocial assessment for select candidates prior to final acceptance and program admissions referral to Property Management for housing application.
  • Provide Case Management for up to five in residence families.
  • Provide all services through a Strengths Based and Trauma-Informed lenses
  • In conjunction with LGSH staff, connect all participants to community resources and additional support services for post-secondary students
  • Provide timely follow-up calls and reminders for clients as necessary.
  • Maintain inventory and distribute emergency pantry items to participants in residence.
  • Assist in the coordination of distribution of donations to incoming and established LGSH residence.
  • Assist in researching up to date knowledge of community social service resources and processes, as well as, knowledge of community educational resources and processes, such as admissions, financial aid, registration and related academic processes at the local institutions attended by participants
  • Organize educational family workshops for in-residence participants.
  • Observe and assist in the management of small groups within the LGSH program, i.e. parent groups, youth groups, healthy relationships, etc.
  • Share information about LGSH and support referral relationships with the community through presentations, tabling events, and informational sessions with area schools, businesses, and non-profit organizations
  • Work with LGSH Campus Coordinator to organize informational sessions, social, and recreational activities for LGSH participants and families to support the goals of academic advising and case management services.
  • Meet regularly with all LGSH staff and Property Management staff for case conference and to ensure program processes are compliant, functional, and efficient for residents, LGSH staff, and Property Management staff.
  • Attend all Strengths Based and trauma-informed service trainings for NKCAC staff, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Master Level Degree Candidate participating in an accredited Social Work Program.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule, open too daytime, evening and weekend hours.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet databases
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a group setting, peer to peer and autonomously.
  • Willingness to practice and develop interpersonal, oral, written, and direct service skills
  • Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socio-economic backgrounds
  • NKCAC-LGSH Program cannot employ anyone who has been found by the Cabinet to have abused or neglected a child

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25lbs up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on computer for prolonged periods of time up to 75% of the time
