Description

POSITION TITLE: NUTRITION COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Family Services

FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt

Hourly Rate: $27.04

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Operate in compliance with any and all of the policies and procedures as established by Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission, USDA, and Head Start Program Performance Standards. Fulfill responsibilities as an early childhood development and health services team member and carry out tasks as outlined in the component plan.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work cooperatively with all components of the program.
  2. Maintain the confidentiality of staff and clients.
  3. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  4. Participate in the annual self-assessment.
  5. Attend staff meetings and training, as required.
  6. Follow established child abuse reporting procedures.
  7. Assist in recruiting and training parent and community volunteers.
  8. Assist in the recruiting of Head Start/EHS eligible children within the community.
  9. Assist in securing in-kind donations to match the required non-federal share amount each program year.
  10. Schedule and provide required nutritional education training for children, staff and parents as outlined in training manual.
  11. Meet training and health requirements as outlined by the health department, childcare licensing, Head Start Program Performance Standards and USDA guidelines.
  12. Develop menus with input from parents and Policy Council and have approved through licensed and registered Dietician.
  13. Provide all food and food service equipment necessary for food service at other Head Start centers.
  14. Arrange and maintain catering contracts.
  15. Approve all classroom cooking requisitions.
  16. Approve and arrange food for parent events.
  17. Assist cook with inventory and checklist for weekly food order.
  18. Assist cook in assessing foods necessary for preparation of menu items.
  19. Enter completed monthly inventory forms and other USDA forms into the tracking software, Child Plus.
  20. Monitor child BMIs/growth assessments and conduct follow-up with families, as needed.
  21. Ensure all children receive a nutrition screening within the first 45 days of program enrollment.
  22. Analyze data collected from child nutrition screenings.
  23. Maintain all required documentation for USDA, Health Department, and the Office of Head Start.
  24. Complete and provide to Finance Department monthly USDA reimbursement with a copy to Head Start Director.
  25. Document all menu changes and maintain record of changes.
  26. Provide USDA orientation training to all employees.
  27. Modify diets, due to food allergies or religious exemptions.
  28. Submit monthly component numbers.
  29. Attend all USDA Trainings for Child & Adult Care Feeding Program.
  30. Conduct center monitoring for USDA and program compliance purposes.
  31. Maintain classroom ratios and child supervision, as needed, for classroom coverage.
  32. Plan, organize and implement Summer Feeding Program, when necessary.
  33. Performance of any other work-related tasks deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related degree, or certified dietitian with relevant experience.
  •  High school diploma or GED required.
  • Relevant experience in USDA/CACFP or related background.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in creating menus and food preparation for large groups.
  • Experience in monitoring BMI.
  • Proficient record keeping skills and supervisory skills.
  • Maintain a current food handlers permit.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socio-economic backgrounds.

PHYICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 40 lbs up to 80% of the time
  • Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on computer for prolonged periods of time up to 75% of the time
