Northern Improvement is searching for a resourceful, mechanically inclined individual who loves working with diesel trucks and heavy equipment to fill our role of service technician.
The Service Technician is responsible for fueling, lubing, and maintaining equipment, the service technician may help the mechanic with diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing vehicles and equipment.
This service technician is expected to operate a commercial motor vehicle in order to service the equipment. This is a traveling highway concrete position that will work in multiple locations throughout North Dakota.
This position will begin at the start of the 2024 construction season with an anticipated start from mid-April to early May, with some potential training and meetings before the start of the season.
Duties and responsibilitiesThe service technician will complete oil changes, change all filters, and take SOS samples on pickups, trucks, loaders, blades, generators, tractors, and all other equipment on the projectFuel equipment as neededMust be able to perform / help with all general maintenance of machinery and equipmentCheck all fluid levels daily and perform daily walk-around inspection, including greasing as necessaryHelp the mechanic complete preventative and reactive maintenance on all company construction equipmentMaintain Company equipment and facilities including keeping them in good, clean, orderly conditionOrder necessary parts to repair the equipmentUsing hoists and hand tools will examine parts for damage or excessive wearOccasionally cleaning parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solventAll other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operationsQualificationsExperience working with diesel trucks and heavy equipment (Volvo, Western Star, Kenworth, CAT, Wirtgen, etc.
Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (Class A CDL preferred)Possess a HAZMAT and Tanker endorsementAbility to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employmentWorking conditionsIndoor / outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperaturesOccasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
May be required to work 60 hours, 6 days a week.Physical requirementsTravel throughout North Dakota requiredVerbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
