About the Opportunity About the Opportunity: The Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Biotechnology Program invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with the title of Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor. This position is located at the Northeastern University Boston Campus. The Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Biotechnology Program is designed to allow students to pursue advanced training and excel in bioscience while simultaneously developing highly valued business skills. The successful applicant will have the knowledge to develop and teach Biotechnology courses at the Master’s level. This faculty position has their academic appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and reports to the Chair of that department but will work under the direction of the Director of the Biotechnology Program. Responsibilities: The instructor will be responsible for teaching core biotechnology courses in either biotechnology business or scientific areas, as relates to the applicant’s expertise. Teaching responsibilities and service commitments are based on program needs and are at the discretion of the Director of the Biotechnology Program. Teaching Responsibilities include the following: teaching excellence, including utilization of modern pedagogical approaches that create inclusive and active classrooms; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and discussions in an in-person or online class; timely review and grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to the students; consistent connection with students and their performance; adherence to Northeastern’s policies; update and integration of industry-relevant examples and case studies into course curriculum. Course design may be required, including development and instruction of online courses. In addition to core teaching responsibilities, this individual will be responsible for a service component within their role, which may include: participating in administrative committees, curriculum planning, mentoring students, and building industry partnerships of value to the program. This unique position seeks to integrate professional practice into the classroom, specifically with respect to the Massachusetts bioscience ecosystem. Qualifications: Qualified candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University Education. Candidate must have a Ph.D. in life sciences, business or related field by the appointment start date, and a commitment to teaching excellence at the university level. Demonstrated experience involving the biotechnology industry is highly desirable. Experience in the business domain of biotechnology or in professional skills development is considered an asset. Position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively and successfully interact with students, faculty, staff and industry partners. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of the barriers facing individuals from groups marginalized in your field and be in alignment with Northeastern’s mission to reflect the diversity of the societies in which it maintains campuses and to meet the educational needs and interests of its diverse population.
