Position Summary :

As a working Manager, The Housekeeping Manager both performs and oversees the housekeeping function for the organization.

This position supervises work activities of cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive rooms in North Star facilities.

The Manager performs and / or assigns duties, inspects work, and investigates complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment and takes corrective action.

May purchase housekeeping supplies and equipment, take periodic inventories, screen applicants, train new employees, and recommend personnel actions.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates work activities of Housekeeping staff in multiple facilities in accordance with organization’s policies and all State, Federal and JCAHO standards.

2. Establishes standards and procedures for work of housekeeping staff to ensure facilities and furnishings are clean and orderly

3. Screens job applicants, hires new employees, and recommends promotions, transfers, and dismissals.

4. Conducts departmental new hire training and in-service training to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.

5. Examines buildings to determine need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and makes recommendations to management.

6. Prepares work schedules of all department personnel to ensure adequate staffing, prioritizing effectively to minimize overtime and adhere to FTE per census standards.

7. Maintains and monitors the Housekeeping Department’s financial results to achieve operating goals.

8. Orders housekeeping supplies in a cost effective manner to ensure an adequate supply is maintained; records invoices.

9. Ensures Safety Data Sheets are current for all products being utilized and information is immediately accessible in proximity to corresponding chemicals.

• Oversees the facilities’ pest control process.
• Achieves and maintains a level of service consistent with quality assurance and accreditation standards.
• Collaborates with hospital personnel and medical staff to ensure optimal patient care; promotes a positive working environment and guest relations through effective internal and external communications.
• Responsible for coordinating the room preparation for special functions.
• Cleans and / or directs the cleaning of floors of facilities.
• Removes and / or directs the removal of waste utilizing proper disposal procedures and ensuring safe and sanitary conditions.
• Removes and / or directs the removal and replacement of soiled linens; placing them in proper soiled linen storage areas.
• Ensures department equipment is maintained in proper working order; ensures cleanliness, proper storage of equipment and supplies to maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :

This position requires knowledge of high school level reading, writing, and arithmetic, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience operating a multi-line switchboard preferred.

• Must be older than years of age
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three (3) years’ experience in housekeeping AND two (2) years’ experience supervising housekeeping personnel required.
• Housekeeping experience in health care is preferred.
