North Shore Steel is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Director Near Houston, TX

We are seeking a dynamic Environmental Health and Safety Director to join our team in east Houston. The Environmental Health and Safety Director will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations across the enterprise.Responsibilities:Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement new safety policies and proceduresReviews all current job hazard analysis, safety policies, and procedures and implements required changes Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rulesEnsures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reportingProvides technical and administrative support to the safety committeeStops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipmentPerform evaluation and make recommendations for detection, prevention, and elimination of physical, chemical, or other hazardsOversees permit processes, issuing special permits for regulated activities such as enclosed space entry, welding operations (explosives), and transport of hazardous supplies and materialsManage environmental hazard testing program within health and safety regulationsDevelops and implements safety and security programs; provides required training on new programs and proceduresOversees employee training on applicable safety standards and programsReviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updatesConducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulationsReviews incident reports, oversee root cause analysis process, and correct action completionPerforms other related duties as assignedQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field requiredAt least seven years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment requiredAt least five years of overseeing safety programs and safety professionalsExtensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standardsExcellent knowledge of best practices in production, distribution, and construction environmentsDemonstrates extensive knowledge of job hazard analysis and root cause analysisStrong knowledge of environmental condition evaluation requirements and hazardous waste proceduresStrong technical competency Excellent written and verbal communication skillsSkilled at developing and conducting training programsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailPhysical Requirements:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.Benefits:North Shore Steel provides rich benefits to its full-time employees and their families, including, but not limited to, multiple Major Medical plans, Dental, Vision, Vol Life, Short Term Disability, and a Flex Spending Account.
