QUALIFICATIONS:1.MA DESE Licensure in History 5-12 2.MA DESE Licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12, preferred but not required3.Previous teaching experience, preferred but not required4.Knowledge of adolescent behavioral health and social emotional learning needs 5.Experience working in an alternative education environment, preferred but not required6.Strong organizational skills7.Proficiency with instructional technology and hands on learningV.LENGTH OF POSITION:183 days with potential for summer hoursVI.REPORTS TO:North River School PrincipalVII.SUPERVISES:Teaching AssistantsVIII.EVALUATION: Staff Evaluation will be implemented as outlined in the North River Collaborative Personnel Policies & Procedures Handbook.IX.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:A.EDUCATIONAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE1.Plan and deliver differentiated instruction in History according to North River School’s curricula and Massachusetts Curriculum Framework Standards.2.Design and implement interdisciplinary project-based learning and thematic units.3.Consistently implement instructional methods and develop materials that meet stated objectives and are appropriate for maturity and skill level of students. 4.Provide supervision of students and implement recommended behavior support programs for students.5.Collect, analyze and share data relative to student learning on a regular basis in order to inform instructional practice and programmatic focus. 6.Coordinate all classroom activities and develop an organized classroom schedule that is conducive to learning and in accordance with IEP objectives.7.Ensure classroom appearance is neat, orderly and accommodates students’ needs.8.Ensure timely and orderly completion of daily activities as indicated in weekly schedule.9.Coordinate with other specialists (counselor, speech and language therapist, nurse, behavioral consultant) to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each student.10.Develop appropriate assessment strategies and assess accomplishments of students on a regular basis; contribute to written quarterly progress reports and other reports as needed.11.Maintain contact with counselors or other agencies involved with each student.12.Initiate and participate in educationally related field trips with appropriate student supervision.13.Act as a resource person for students, parents and staff members who wish to further their understanding of teaching and student needs.14.Assist Principal with activities related to intake of students referred to program or transitions of students leaving program as requested.B.SUPERVISION AND TRAINING1.Supervise paraprofessionals assigned to classroom, providing necessary training and input to evaluation of their job performance.2.Accept and follow through with constructive feedback provided by the Principal.C.DOCUMENTATION AND PROGRAM COMMUNICATION1.Communicate with parents frequently to help them better understand school and its program, including student’s individual programs.2.Attend twice yearly evening parent conferences as scheduled.3.Submit data or other documentation related to student performance 2 weeks prior to the IEP meeting date, as requested.4.Assist in development of program budget and ordering of classroom materials.5.Abide by program hours and other policies as outlined in the North River Collaborative Personnel Policies & Procedures Handbook.D.PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT1.Develop student learning and professional practice goals as indicated based on evaluation cycle.2.Participate in Collaborative and/or member district program development or goals as requested.3.Attend and provide a record of attendance of relevant professional development to keep abreast of trends and recent developments in the area of certification.4.Attend and participate in in-service training programs and department/program meetings as required.5.Keep up to date on current technology for enhancing student success, professional collaboration and efficiency.E.HEALTH AND SAFETY1.Respond to the needs of individual students to enhance their self-esteem and personal development.2.Able to respond quickly and physically assist students during any emergency drills or actual emergencies.3.Able to safely and effectively participate in restraint training and safely perform physical escort and restraints as needed once trained.4.Able to move with reasonable speed in order to maintain safety of behaviorally involved students who may run towards danger.5.Able to safely and effectively participate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training if requested and to safely perform CPR as needed once trained.F.ETHICAL1.Maintain confidentiality of students’ information at all times.2.Maintain professional attitudes and productive relationships with students, other staff and administration.3.Treat parents and other professionals with respect and maintain professional boundaries.4.Preserve the rights of each student and family.G.OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE PRINCIPAL OR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
