North Reading School District is Hiring a Teacher-Elementary General Music & Chorus Long-Term Substitute (2024-2025) Near North Reading, MA

The L.D. Batchelder Elementary School is seeking a full year General Music and Chorus Teacher Long-Term Substitute. In this role, you will provide vocal instruction for students in grades 4 and 5, and general music instruction for students in grades K-5. The Music Teacher supports each student in the acquisition of basic skills, an understanding of the structure of music, vocal care, and motivates each student to work through the chorus/general music curriculum while providing them with a meaningful musical experience. 

This assignment is tentatively from September 3, 2024 through June 18, 2025 (the anticipated last day of the 2024-2025 school year). New educators will be required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.

Essential duties

  • Plan a music program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
  • Extend student music experiences into the general, wider community
  • Instruct all levels of chorus, from small group instruction to large ensembles, on sight-reading, and music literacy
  • Prepare and direct student musicians in school concerts
  • Work cooperatively with other Performing Arts Department staff members in preparation for concerts
  • Keep accurate records of student achievement
  • Be available to communicate with parents/guardians as needed
  • Value the role of social-emotional development in children plus knowledge of child development as it relates to a music curriculum
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Designee

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General, all levels
  • Master's Degree, preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations that govern public schools
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
