North Reading School District is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near North Reading, MA

North Reading High School’s Athletic Department has an anticipated opening for an Athletic Trainer to work all three athletic seasons throughout the 2023-2024 school year. North Reading High School’s Athletic Department services 600 athletes in grades 9-12. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.

This position is approximately 20 hours/week, five days a week, during the school year. It is understood that the actual number of hours shall vary from week to week and season to season. Specific schedule will be determined upon hire with the Athletic Director. Post season schedules will vary and will be coordinated by the Athletic Director.

Essential Duties

  • Pre-game taping and basic care of all athletes before and after practice and games for all home competitions
  • Post-game treatment as needed
  • Game coverage at all home athletic contests, with exception being football where coverage would be required at all games.
    • Applicants may access the North Reading Public Schools team athletics schedule through this link. Please note, the 2023-2024 season schedules have not yet been posted.
  • Be present after school from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM during the fall and spring athletic season. During the winter season the schedule is contingent upon the winter game schedule, with additional office hours on non-game days to be scheduled.
  • Attend practices and games for the school’s athletic teams
  • Work in conjunction with the Athletic Director to determine which athletic events should be covered when there are scheduling conflicts
  • Attend post-season tournament athletic events at the request of the Athletic Director
  • Maintain and update records of insurance claim paperwork for athletic injuries
  • Coordinate the establishment of an athletic training room at the school. The North Reading Public Schools will provide appropriate space and supplies for the trainer to perform the basic athletic training duties
  • Advise the athletic department as to the supplies and training equipment needed for the athletic training program
  • Assist the school faculty and athletic coaching staff in the design and implementation of a student athletic training program
  • Assist the school faculty and athletic coaching staff in the design and implementation of a continuing education program for the school’s athletic coaching staff
  • Provide conditioning and flexibility training suggestions to athletic coaching staff with the advice and consent of the team physician
  • Oversee the impact preseason concussion test for all athletes as needed 
  • Provide guidance and education to the Athletic Director and coaching staff regarding sport related concussion injuries 
  • Monitor athletic injuries and develop injury prevention training and programs with the advice and consent of a team physician, including completion of accident reports by the athletic trainer for insurance purposes
  • Coordinate and provide injury follow-up and evaluation for the team physicians
  • Basic first aid instruction and care

Requirements

  • Licensed as athletic trainers by the Board of Registration of Allied Health Professions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • Certified in the National Federation or MIAA approved concussion course
