Qualifications:

• RN Degree
• Same Day Surgery Experience
• PACU Experience
• Current BLS, PALS, and ACLS Certificates
• Ability to function well under pressure. Detail orientated and critical thinking skills.
• Positive interpersonal skills are a must for success.

Job Description:

• Supervises and directs patient care in the pre-procedure area, procedure room, and post-procedure area.
• Assesses patient needs, develops individual plan of care and identifies outcomes.
• Ensures appropriate techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients when providing care in the surgical suite.
• Assists physician(s) and other personnel as needed to ensure good patient care.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient care in the pre-procedure and post-procedure area.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of infection control practices.
• Functions effectively in emergency situations and when under stress.
• Provides patient/family education by utilizing clinical knowledge in an environment conducive to learning.
• Assists in local-monitoring of surgical cases.
• Assists with pre-admission nursing phone calls and protocol.
• Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical and nursing diagnoses, knowledge of specific illness, injuries, diseases, procedures, and appropriate standards of care.
• Prioritizes and provides nursing care based on the individualized plan of care.
• Takes the initiative to participate in continuing education and/or in-services to build and expand scope of practice.
• Manage the care of patients receiving sedation or analgesic medications while undergoing invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Medication administration, patient monitoring, discharge instructions, family teaching and patient safety concerns are all nursing care critical elements of patients undergoing moderate sedation.
