MAINTENANCE-UTILITY/PAINTER TRADESPERSON
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma. Formal trade training and experience preferred.
  • Must have good customer service skills and the ability to work with others.
  • Must possess a valid Missouri driver’s license.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application/use of cleaners, primers, paints, varnishes, thinners, and other materials utilized in the painting and finishing of school facilities and related equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application/use of insecticides, pesticides, and herbicides. Applicators license preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety practices associated with their storage, use and disposal of chemicals, tools and work practices utilized to perform the primary duties; the methods of preparing different surfaces for painting; scaffolding and rigging associated with the painting field.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of hanging, taping, mudding and finishing drywall and sheetrock systems/materials. Experience with suspended ceilings systems.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the positions.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery related to the trade.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to interpret blue prints and engineering drawings.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations and Maintenance.
JOB GOAL: To maintain the physical plant in a state of operating excellence that presents no problems or interruptions to the educational process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assumes primary responsibility for all aspects related to the position.
  • Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance.
  • Performs all repairs as needed in district owned facilities and assists outside contractors when appropriate.
  • Estimates the cost of repairs and small projects in terms of labor, materials, and overhead.
  • Makes repairs in sheetrock, plaster/plasterboard including sanding. Then sands, primes and paints these surfaces.
  • Repairs, primes and paints a variety of woodwork, furniture using all types of finishes.
  • Install and repair suspended ceiling systems.
  • Performs and assists with carpet repairs and installations.
  • Treat, exterminate, and apply insecticides in district buildings for insects. Exterminate or catch rodents.
  • Calls and schedules outside exterminators when needed.
  • Perform and assist with small construction projects,
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchases.
  • Advises the Director of Operations and Maintenance of matters pertaining to painting, projects and general utility work.
  • Operate and maintain snow and Ice removal/treatment machinery.
  • Repairs, maintains, primes and paints a variety of interior and exterior surfaces using all types of finishes. This work includes the layout and striping of parking lots, driveways, play areas, etc.
  • Performs work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills both oral and written.
  • Adheres to good safety practices.
  • Performs on-call coverage as required.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIROMENT: The work environment is consistent with heavy equipment work and spends a significant amount of time outside during all seasons.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
FLSA: Non-exempt
RETIREMENT: Public Education Employee Retirement System (PEERS)
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Class F Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Administrator Evaluation process.
