North Iowa Area Community College is Hiring an Auditorium Technical Assistant Near Mason City, IA

Basic Function: The Technical Assistant sets a standard of excellence for all technical operations and the physical facility and equipment found in the North Iowa Community Auditorium. The Technical Assistant is familiar and comfortable with the use and operation of performance space systems, including lighting, audio, video, staging/rigging, and A/V systems, as well as support services available in the North Iowa Community Auditorium. The Technical Assistant works closely with the Technical Director and other NIACC staff, Fine Arts Department faculty, visiting artists, and other North Iowa Community Auditorium users to determine and coordinate the best technical support possible for successful facility utilization for every event.

Supervision Exercised: Back-up supervision to part-time technical crew, generally student employees and/or volunteers, road show personnel, and private contractors hired to provide specific services.

Salary & Benefits: Salary of $35,810.23 - $42,972.28 based on experience. Fringe benefits of Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance, eye care, dental, life and disability insurance. Retirement benefits as provided by Social Security and IPERS or TIAA.

Qualifications: Combination of education and/or experience in technical theater/live event production equivalent to a minimum of 2 years. Excellent communication skills to work effectively with a diverse group of constituencies. Knowledge of stagecraft, stage rigging, sound, recording, lighting, and computer-generated multimedia presentations, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office. Ability to read and interpret light plots, stage plans, and related technical documents. Initiative and ability to work independently as part of a team.

Physical Demands: Must be able to withstand long and irregular hours of concentrated physical activity; including nights and weekends. Must be able to work in catwalks, on grids and on ladders/lifts. Must be able to assist with touring company load-ins, load-outs and performances. Physical limitations cannot totally hinder the ability to perform tasks; heavy lifting is required. Work at heights in excess of 30 feet while practicing proper fall protection is required.

Supervisor: Auditorium Technical Director

Responsibilities:

Represent North Iowa Community Auditorium as Technical Coordinator and Production Manager to a wide variety of internal and external constituents such as visiting artists, campus event sponsors, off-campus/community facility renters, etc.; including but not limited to the following duties:
1. Assist with reviewing technical riders, production requests, and requirements and negotiate agreements that fulfill contractual obligations while providing cost-effective, high quality presentations. Identify potential technical glitches and resolve said issues in a timely manner.
2. Advance each event; compile equipment list needed on a "per event" basis and coordinate rental, delivery and pick-up of equipment not in the North Iowa Community Auditorium inventory.
3. Assist all North Iowa Community Auditorium users in providing trained and supervised technical staffing and stage management for all events occurring in North Iowa Community Auditorium.
4. Assist with coordination/scheduling of technical staffing for all events.
5. Recruit, train, and supervise technical crew who staff activities occurring on North Iowa Community Auditorium premises or North Iowa Community Auditorium.
6. Ensure safe working conditions and practices for all North Iowa Community Auditorium users through the development and implementation of theater safety training programs and completed safety checks.
7. Assist the Technical Director with daily operations as needed, but particularly in regard to maximizing facility use and efficiencies.
8. Participate in educational opportunities to enhance the operating efficiencies of the auditorium.
9. Maintain a professional appearance appropriate to the level of the event.
10. Complete special projects or other duties related to North Iowa Community Auditorium facilities and programs as assigned.
11. Assist with maintaining clean and orderly production areas including but not limited to stages and back-of-house theater support space(s).
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
