North East Medical Services is Hiring a Doula Near San Francisco, CA

The Doula is an unlicensed health professional and is primarily responsible for assisting patients throughout the birth process and lifestyle changes that come with motherhood. They offer emotional, moral, physical, and educational support to new and expectant mothers. The Doula works collaboratively with other health care members to provide comprehensive, quality and accessible health care services to patients under the supervision of the CPSP Program Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides the mother with emotional, physical, moral, and educational support, especially during times when the father and other close relatives are unavailable.
  • Listens to the concerns and questions of the mother in a kind, supportive way and offers the best possible advice.
  • completes perinatal and postpartum follow ups as needed to support the family.
  • Responsible for providing support for the mother and infant during their breastfeeding experience.
  • Duties may include teaching some Childbirth Prep, Newborn care and Pregnancy and Breastfeeding education classes
  • Keeps up to date on childbirth support, birthing techniques, and pre- and post-natal care by conducting research, networking with other Doulas and mothers, and attends workshops and lectures.
  • Be available to accommodate fluctuating schedules when mothers go into labor and during appointments
  • Assist in different ways to make the transition to motherhood easier.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of Completion for a minimum of 16 total hours of training in required areas: Lactation support, Childbirth education, Foundations on anatomy of pregnancy and childbirth; Nonmedical comfort measures, prenatal support, and labor support techniques; and Developing a community resource list

OR

  • Attestation that the candidate has provided services in the capacity of a doula in either a paid or volunteer capacity for at least five years. The five years of experience in the capacity as a doula must have occurred within the last seven years from the date the application is submitted.

AND

  • Three written client testimonial letters or professional letters of recommendation using the testimonial templates provided within this regulatory provider bulletin from any of the following: a physician, licensed behavioral health provider, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, licensed midwife, enrolled doula, or community-based organization. Letters must be written within the last seven years. One letter must be from either a licensed provider, a community-based organization, or an enrolled doula.
  • Extensive childbirth experience required
  • A calming and nurturing presence required
  • Knowledge of childbirth, pre and post-natal care, and medical terminology
  • Answer questions and provide guidance in a supportive and professional manner
  • The ability to remain calm, multitask and provide emotional support.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Basic Life Support is required.
  • Must be proficient in computer usage Microsoft Office and EMR (EPIC is a plus)


LANGUAGE:

  • Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
  • Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin), Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
  • Fluency in other languages are an asset.


STATUS:

This is an FLSA non-exempt position.

This is an OSHA high-risk position.
