Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at assigned campus. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Deliver guidance curriculum in various group sizes. Educate students of skills necessary to address troublesome circumstances, support students in challenging situations, and assist students with needed resources to navigate crisis situations. Works collaboratively various school entities to ensure the success of all students.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive program of guidance in accordance with students’ developmental needs, including counseling services.
2. Outlines, in writing, and effectively teaches, a guidance curriculum consistent with the District's guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs.
3. Works with students, staff, parents or guardians, and the community to identify priorities where students will be served through the guidance curriculum component. Collaborates across curricular areas to integrate guidance lessons into content area curriculum.
4. Continue to improve the effectiveness of the overall program in meeting desired student outcomes.
5. Guides individual students, groups of students, and parents to plan, monitor, and manage the student’s own educational and career development, including creating and reviewing personal graduation plans and providing information about post-secondary opportunities.
6. Uses accepted theories and effective techniques of developmental guidance to counsel individual students, small groups of students, teachers, and parents to plan, monitor, and manage a student’s own personal and social development. Provides preventive, remedial, and crisis counseling, as needed.
7. Maintains a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information about students to other professionals as appropriate.
8. Uses effective referral process for assisting students and others to use School/District special programs, community agencies, and services.
9. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.
10. Interprets test and other appraisal results to school personnel, students, and their parents.
11. In partnership with campus administration, plans and supports a successful campus testing environment.
12. Uses other sources of student data such as the standardized testing program as assessment tools for educational planning.
13. Advocates for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
14. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents.
15. Adheres to ethical, legal, and professional standards for school counselors, including current professional standards of competence and practice.
16. Participates as a member of the campus team in maintaining accurate records pertaining to the submission of campus data to Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS).
17. Assists administration in the withdrawal process by conducting and appropriately documenting student exit interviews.
18. Maintains and protects confidential student cumulative records.
19. Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
20. Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.
21. Occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
22. Reports to work on time every day.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:- Knowledge of leadership principles and theories
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated multicultural, ethical and professional competencies in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive school counseling program
- Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and discretion in sensitive, confidential issues and projects
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
