Additional Information: Starting base wage is $31.00 - $38.00 along with a $1.50-$2.50 shift differential depending on the shift.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Required: *Current Professional Nurse Registration from the Wisconsin State Board of Nursing

Current BLS (CPR) Certification
Less than one year experience
Ability to use a computer-based system for data entry, planning, and documenting care
Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Preferred: *Bachelor’s degree in Nursing earned at an accredited four year college or university.

Certification in psychiatric nursing
Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the nursing care of all assigned patients.
  • Delegates tasks to and supervises ancillary nursing personnel.
  • Supervises, directs and assists employees with direct patient care and provides direct patient care within time management limits.
  • Monitors and coaches employee performance.
  • Contributes, participates, and supports the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) approach to providing quality care for patients.
  • Knowledge of accurate application of the nursing process, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation as relates to patient care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
  • Maintains regular and predictable on-site attendance.

When Designated Charge Nurse Responsibilities:

  • Delegates the shift’s tasks to all of the nurses and techs in the unit and coordinate with physicians who might need assistance
  • Monitors the daily staffing of the unit
  • Assess acuity of Unit and ensures the staffing grid is being followed
  • Identifies open IP beds
  • Collaborates with the Providers to optimize bed availability
  • Assigns beds/rearranges beds as needed
  • Collaborates with Psychiatrists to monitor unit acuity and patient needs, and update no roommate and line of sight orders
  • Monitors and assesses line of sight and no roommate orders. Ensures no roommate is designated accurately in the TIER census
  • Works collaboratively to avoid diversions
  • Assesses clients in the Crisis Center as requested
  • Assists MMT and CBRF with med entry/med pass of controlled substances
  • Attends Morning Rounds with the treatment team
  • Monitors 15 min check sheets
  • Monitors non-noted orders
  • Ensures policy and procedures are being followed during the shift
  • Provides a report off to the on-coming charge nurse
  • Other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Director of BHS
