North Carolina Dept of Transportation is Hiring an Assistant Division Traffic Engineer Near Cumberland, NC

Description of Work

*Hiring Range $76,846 - $82,754*

This position is located in Cumberland County Traffic Services. Position will oversee and manage activities for Traffic Services Department including but not limited to signs, pavement markings, traffic control and signals. Position may serve as the LOGO/TODS coordinator, perform special commercial review, access management review, and perform citizen requests and engineering studies of the geometric design/construction of highways. Position will perform ordinances, crash analysis and speed study analysis. Position will fill in for Division Traffic Engineer/Deputy Division Traffic Engineer in their absence. Position will perform other duties as assigned by Division Traffic Engineer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
  • Experience with software such as Microsoft Office.
Additional Expectations:

Knowledge of principles, practices, and theories in civil engineering with emphasis in the field of traffic engineering. Considerable understanding of design methods, departmental policies, standards, procedures, and practices of access management guidelines. Ability to perform various traffic engineering field studies and present recommendations. Ability to communicate effectively in written and/or oral form. Ability to legally operate a state vehicle.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
