About the Internship

Do you enjoy wrangling data and making sense of it? Do your friends and family think you’re an information wizard? Do you have interest in gaining experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system? If so, keep reading!

A Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is a software tool designed to help organizations track relationships and interactions with current and potential clients. We use the information housed in our CRM as a research tool to fuel our work and drive initiatives.

This intern will be heavily involved in supporting data entry and data quality in our CRM, HubSpot. On an average day, you might be identifying, reviewing, and cleaning duplicate contact records, reviewing news articles and database alerts for updates about North Carolina-based people and companies, or conducting record maintenance to ensure that data is current. The intern will gain extensive experience with data integrity. This role is not highly technical but requires accuracy and strong attention to detail. The intern may be involved in additional projects as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of the importance of data quality, strong communication skills and a customer-oriented attitude. The candidate should be able to work independently once trained on a project, but unafraid to ask questions when clarification is needed. The right candidate will have a forward-thinking, creative mindset and be able to think critically about assignments.

Interns will gain the following:

  • HubSpot/CRM experience
  • Proficiency in data integrity and experience following data standards
  • Opportunities to learn about information organization and retrieval within a special library
  • Opportunities to participate in projects
  • Learn about economic development and the life sciences ecosystem
  • Experience managing complex subsets of information
  • Introduction to visualization tools
