North Carolina Adult Correction is Hiring a Correctional Lieutenant II Near Sampson County, NC

Description of Work

Working closely with and reporting directly to the Correctional Captain II and/or Correctional Associate Warden, this position is responsible for providing supervision of subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducting investigations and performing searches of persons, places, and objects.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Making security inspections of the facility and grounds.
  • Monitoring posts to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained, and that assignments are carried out properly.
  • Performing rescue functions to include CPR, basic first aid, physically removing people from dangerous areas, and using fire-fighting equipment to include fire hoses, extinguishers, and breathing apparatus.
  • Identifying training needs and coordinating delivery of training to subordinate staff.
This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.
About Sampson Correctional Institution:
Sampson Correctional Institution is in Clinton, North Carolina and houses up to 462 male offenders in a medium/minimum custody facility.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Supervisory skills in a prison facility
  • Knowledge of facility operations
  • Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
  • Report writing skills

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant
Or
Two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
