North American Roofing is Hiring a Director of Construction Near Tampa, FL

We are currently looking for a Director of Construction to oversee in-house and Field Partner Crews. You will direct and coordinate all project activity through Project Managers while reporting to and working directly with the VP of Operations. If you have experience managing commercial projects (in roofing is even better) and have had success leading, motivating, and mentoring teams, this may be a fit for you.
What you'll do:
  • Ensure a strong culture of effective communication with Senior Management, within the install department, across other functional teams, and with our customers at all times.
  • Assign jobs to Project Managers and determine job start date
  • Ensure Project Managers are following all required SOP’s and Directives
  • Responsible for Maintaining the Production (BOJ) Schedule and updating it weekly
  • Assign crews, in-house or Field Partners
  • Review Project Manager and In-house Crews’ schedules weekly to ensure all are efficiently managing their time and travel.
  • Provide leadership to Project Managers when reviewing contract scope for all Install projects
  • Provide handoff meeting leadership
  • Meet with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Superintendents to review system design, details, and pre-planning efforts for each job.
  • Review and ensure Project Management Team is managing material and equipment budget for each project
  • Review job cost details with PMs to ensure necessary adjustments are made prior to finalizing budget with Accounting department.
  • Review and approve any large crew equipment purchases
  • Review and approve Subcontractor agreements prior to job start.
  • Review and approve submittals prior to submission.
  • Participate in weekly Job Cost Reviews with individual Project Mangers, and then scheduled meetings with Accounting, Purchasing and Estimating.
  • Provide analysis and reporting on job cost for projects as requested.
  • Manage the Change Order process and ensure all approval from client is obtained and documented prior to additional work being performed. Ensure that all Change Orders that may exceed $ 10,000 are sent to the estimating department.
  • Review variance and discrepancy reports with PMs on a regular basis and monthly with Production committee to determine appropriate feedback to all involved in the project. Ensure PMs are documenting discrepancies in CRM.
  • Work with Customer Action Manager to resolve client disputes as needed
  • Assist to investigate incidents on jobs and develop course of action to resolve.
  • Determine and communicate to the VP of Operations required staffing levels for field crews and PMs based on budget and department needs to accomplish production goals.
  • Interview, select and train capable Project Managers, Field Coordinators, and Field Managers to meet staffing needs.
  • Review and Approve crew hires recommended by Field Managers / Foreman.
  • Develop training initiatives for Field staff, Project Managers, and Field Coordinators.
  • Assist with tracking successful projects for the Production Department Bonus program.
  • Manage the approval process for Project Managers and Field Managers expense reports monthly and ensure all follow NARS policies.
  • Review Field Manager crew hours for discrepancies on a weekly basis by Tuesday at noon for payroll.
  • Provide technical support for Sales and Estimating departments and assist with development of best system solutions
  • When requested, provide alternate design methods and review technical or difficult jobs prior to bid
  • Ensure a culture of safety on all projects.
  • Interface with the executive team to fulfill company goals
  • Complete detailed year end evaluations for all Direct Reports.
What we're looking for:
  • 10 years commercial experience managing commercial projects (preference given to Roofing experience)
  • 5 years of leadership experience coaching and mentoring staff
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to review and understand project financials and estimates
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • Preferred: One or more State Licensure Qualifier in states where NARS operates and/or the ability to take and pass State Licensure Qualifier for states where NARS operates.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a Tampa Office will consider hybrid (including office, roof tops, customer spaces, and warehouse).
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions ranging from extreme cold to extreme heat and other inclement weather circumstances.
  • Repetitive bending and stooping with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to lift and setup a ladder weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work rapidly under pressure and at heights.
  • Must be able to climb ladders on commercial roofs at a height of 20 to 40 feet.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder or stairs to get onto a rooftop to conduct an inspection.
  • Must be able to work at heights ranging from a single story to multi-story building.
  • Must be able to wear a full, body harness when necessary for fall protection.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator when necessary due to the environment.
  • Repetitive finger/hand/forearm motion necessary for completing data entry. Ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads and copy equipment essential. Talking and listening required for answering telephones and conversing personally with customers and staff.
  • Travel will average 50% depending on customer needs and visits to sites/customers by car or airplane.
