Job Description

Primary Purpose:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day invoicing of charges to recover costs incurred by Norfolk Southern for government-funded projects.

Principal Duties:

  • Directly responsible for generating invoices to recover project expenses
  • Reviews and interprets agreements to ensure customers are invoiced according to terms
  • Collaborates with other internal departments, conducts research, and interprets agreements to resolve customer disputes and other billing-related issues
  • Identifies, researches, and provides solutions for root causes relating to billing issues
  • Analyzes trends and identifies opportunities for process improvement
  • Prepares monthly and periodic reports for use of internal and external stakeholders
  • Develops routine and non-routine journal entries
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Ensures proper accounting application for transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, corporate policy, documented internal controls, and other regulatory requirements
  • Works on special projects as identified and needed

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 1 years

Preferred Level: 3 years

Education:

Preferred Level: Bachelor's degree

Preferred Majors: Accounting or Finance

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • Excellent time-management and organizational abilities
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet common goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of internal and external customers
  • Flexibility to implement, adapt, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
