NIRSense is a medical device company miniaturizing hospital monitors into wearable sensor systems for remote patient care. Our systems implement validated medical techniques in easy-to-use robust packages for patient management around high consequence medical events. We’re a quickly growing team of technical experts seeking experienced contributors to medical device development, validation, regulatory approval, and support. 

Position Summary:

The Director of Programs is a central coordinating role, responsible for organizing NIRSense’s technical contributors in support of identified sponsored research projects that align with and support the needs of NIRSense’s customers. The Director advances our research and development efforts by organizing and supporting internal and external stakeholders for sponsored project award capture and management. Working in concert with NIRSense’s technical leadership and federal sponsors, the Director of Government Programs plays a leading role in coordinating and advancing the strategic vision for NIRSense’s rugged wearable systems. The Director is responsible for the non-technical management and successful programmatic execution of all government programs at NIRSense from proposal capture and development through pre- and post-award administration.

The Director maintains NIRSense’s relationships with sponsors and collaborators to understand programmatic requirements as early as possible. As appropriate, the Director also liaises with NIRSense’s clinical leadership to support and coordinate clinical trials. The Director develops and oversees processes to ensure compliance with sponsor and federal regulations while supporting a culture of effective award and program management.

Salary: Compensation package will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience. Anticipated hiring range: $125,000-$145,000.

Hours: Full time

Travel: Up to 10%

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support NIRSense’s leadership in executing technology development, demonstration, and deployment strategies, working to support commercial objectives with government end user requirements when appropriate
  • Oversee proposal development, implementing systems for pre- and post-award management using scalable digital platforms
  • Coordinate content development from research personnel and collaborators and schedule for timely submission of proposal materials and award progress reports
  • Partner with NIRSense’s executive leadership to support NIRSense’s government business development and proposal capture through relationships with end users, stakeholders, and collaborating organizations
  • Partner with NIRSense’s executive leadership and government affairs team to support strategic company objectives
  • Own program progress reporting through regular technical reports and presentations (with content support from NIRSense technical staff) and own program schedule management
  • Serve as an organizational lead in the knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies relating to the protection of human subjects, animal welfare, intellectual property, conflict of interest, cost-accounting standards and other compliance-related activities specifically related to government funded research and development
  • Serve as expert in research development, proposal review and approval, and research award negotiation
  • Collaborate with Finance for the fiscal administration, budgeting, and other compliance issues related to NIRSense federal awards
  • Maintain a robust knowledge of the organization’s programs, capabilities, and partner relationships
  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field; advanced technical degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in research administration or operations
  • Certification in Research Administration or Project Management Professional (PMP, PgMP) certification preferred
  • Experience supporting military medical research and/or military medical acquisitions
  • Proposal management experience including both pre- and post-award; proposal capture experience strongly preferred
  • Proposal assembly experience; proposal writing experience preferred
  • Proposal writing and reporting experience, including technical content generation
  • Experience with wearable consumer electronics and/or medical devices
  • Prior experience working with small companies or startups preferred
