Job Summary: 

NIRSense is seeking an experienced software engineer to work alongside our growing engineering and scientific team in its Morrisville, NC office. This person will lead a broad set of development objectives for NIRSense’s many customers. This person will lead a team of software, firmware, and app development engineers, will manage project requirements for NIRSense systems and its apps, and will develop a framework to track open issues with NIRSense software systems. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional looking to apply their skills toward optimizing system and app interoperability for NIRSense’s transformational capabilities. They work well in a fast-paced and high-performance team.

Salary: The compensation package will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s experience.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field plus industry experience 
• Ten or more years experience with embedded systems design linking physical hardware to app software systems
• Three or more years experience managing a team of software and firmware engineers
• Experience with quality management systems and project management methodologies for software development
• Experience working through the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) for medical devices
• Experience working with real-time operating systems (RTOS)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience interfacing systems with cloud architecture, including data analysis platforms and customer web portals
• Cybersecurity and privacy awareness, with a focus on encryption requirements for protection of PII and/or CUI
• Background in health care, military, biomedical, wearable, or wellness products
• Experience developing user interfaces for mobile applications and/or wearable devices
• Prior experience working with startups and with a local network

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for NIRSense engineered systems from design through testing and deployment to NIRSense customers
• With leadership, outline plans for software development, including setting deadlines, delegating tasks, tracking and closing tickets, and identifying markers of success based on customer requirements
• Compose software development plans, V&V test strategies, and related documents to support the pursuit of FDA approval for various NIRSense products
• Coordinate task management among software and firmware team members
• Lead the effort of transitioning NIRSense software development into accordance with relevant IEC 62304 life cycle processes
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and support hiring processes for the software dev team
• Manage development, internally and with external collaborators, of NIRSense’s Windows, Android, and iOS apps
• Conceptualize and lead management of a web app platform for customer and collaborator data processing and visualization
• Support the automation of product testing to streamline the software and overall product development process
• Adapt software development processes with the growing NIRSense quality management system
• Design app UI/UX frameworks in accordance with medical and military product requirements to track physiological signal variation, alert criteria, and industry standard use of visual and audio alert indicators
• Develop and/or mature an understanding of commercial and military app design standards and test methods
• Provide technical writing support for instructions for use, UX guides, and other internal and external documents
• Report to the Director of Engineering
