NICHOLSON CONSTRUCTION is Hiring an Equipment Operator Near Wharton, TX

Summary:

Operate various material handling equipment including but not limited to Forklifts, Extendable Forklifts, RT cranes, Loaders, Skid Steer Units, and other devices used to move, handle, load/unload and store materials and various equipment both palletized and non-palletized. This work will be performed as part of a team which includes yard labor, mechanics, drillers, and other NCC personnel that may be present in the yard or plant at any given time.

This job is expected to last 3-4 months

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and documentation of the equipment operated
  • Ensure that all Nicholson and OSHA safety regulations arefollowed and enforced; responsible for safty at site.
  • Required to check and maintain all fluid levels, pressures, and physical appearance and function of critical components and parts of the equipment that is being operated.
  • Report and address any shortcomings that could compromise the safety of personnel or property or the proper functioning and longevity of the equipment.

  • Responsible for maintaining daily drill logs and equipment inspection forms
  • Ensures that the work performed is built to the plans, specifications and the level of quality expected of Nicholson

Education & Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OSHA 10-hour Training Certification
  • Forklift and Crane Certifications
  • First Aid/CPR Training

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of as a heavy equipment operator

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to operate construction equipment
  • Thorough understanding of different drilling and excavating techniques utilized by Nicholson
  • Understands equipment operating systems and instrumentation (mechanical and hydraulic)

Physical Requirements:

  • Reaching high and low, stooping, and bending continually
  • Lifting/carrying/moving up to 100 pounds continually
  • Able to travel per the Nicholson travel policy
  • Requires a high degree of concentration in a busy and noisy construction environment
  • Requires working in all types of weather

Mental Requirements:

  • Converse effectively using both verbal and written communication.
  • Make decisions and assume accountability
  • Concentrate on tasks
  • Demonstrate ability to manage stress and emotions as related to the workplace
  • Attention to detail
  • Identify and resolve conflict
  • Assess safety and risk
