SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading production activities in a manner that provides a safe work environment with high part quality in sufficient quantities to meet internal and external customer requirements. Participates in developing and or revising production methods to incorporate Lean Manufacturing principles & drives 7S program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other business-related duties may be assigned.
Follows all IATF16949 Procedures, ISO 14001, OSHA, and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions in the performance of these duties.
  • Spends 100% of your time on the manufacturing shop floor, leading by example providing purpose, direction, and motivation while continuously improving operations.
  • You are a working leader. The expectation will be that you will run machines and or cells a minimum of 30% of your required shift as well as covering for breaks, checking machines and verifying work instructions.
  • Hold employees accountable to drive a safe working environment and delivery of quality parts. Develop employes to be effective contributors ensuring continuous production processes.
  • Safety:
    • Safety first mind set, zero accidents, execute and enforce “JUST STOP PROGRAM”.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workplace to drive an efficient production environment.
  • Quality:
    • Build one good part at a time, zero defects.
    • Ensure all process steps are followed and adhered to.
    • Daily Inspect gages for currency.
    • Inspect and approve first piece checks.
    • Conduct hourly quality inspections on machines to verify process controls are being followed and we are executing within controls.
  • Delivery:
    • Drive daily delivery of OEE >85% to ensure hourly production rates are delivered without interruption.
    • Ensure employees remain at their machine and or work center producing parts, eliminate reasons for employees to leave their work center.
    • Ensure continuous operations by staggering breaks and meals to ensure machines and cells run without stoppage.
    • Ensure machines and cells run thru shift changeovers without interruption.
    • Eliminate the need for overtime.
    • One-week packed stock for domestic orders
    • Two-week packed stock for international orders
    • Responsible for executing seamless shift changeover to ensure a continuous 24x5 production operation without interruption.
    • Mandatory Gemba hand over walk with incoming work leader to inspect all areas, machines, inventory, and 7S conditions.
    • Ensures the 15-minute shift overlap is utilized to ensure zero stoppages and the entire 15-minute overlap is used for production and 7S execution.
  • Conservation:
    • Ensure we are good stewards of our resources, utilize materials and supplies in accordance with designed purpose, identify and deliver opportunities to conserve resources, cut costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive Lean manufacturing processing methods.
    • Identify and drive improvements that ensure quality product is delivered more efficiently and with less cost.
    • Lead Kaizen events as designated 
    • Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment in support of operations- arbors, gages, adaptors, tools and tool sets to ensure easy, quick access.
    • Eliminate waste caused by
      • Overproduction
      • Excess / poorly managed inventory
      • Defects
      • Transport- inefficient and unnecessary transport
      • Motion
      • Over processing- unnecessary / added steps
      • Waiting- idle times and delays
  • Maintenance:
    • Ensure all Operator level maintenance is conducted daily.
    • Track, support, and coordinate Preventative Maintenance checks to ensure we maximize equipment uptime, equipment life, and reduce maintenance expenses while taking care of our equipment.
  • Inventory:
    • Responsible for accurate inventory creation and reporting.
    • Each shift verify inventory numbers are accurate as logged/reported.
    • Maintain the inventory in your areas with the discipline and respect it deserves- neat, organized, clean, free of rust, properly labeled.
    • Ensure First in First Out inventory flow.
    • Execute minimum of monthly cycle count.
    • Daily inventory checks in assigned area, identify and address moved inventory.
    • Ensure inventory is pre-staged for scheduled operations.
  • Training:
    • Responsible for the training and sign off from employees to ensure the safe and productive delivery of quality parts on time.
  • Root Cause Corrective Action:
    • Support the investigation of machine, tool, equipment crashes and damage investigations and the thorough collection of forensic evidence to determine actual root cause with the assistance of cross functional team.
    • Deliver / execute changes as captured in the Root Cause Corrective Actions specific to your area of responsibility and drive to full resolution to prevent re-occurrence of the issue.
    • Post visual reminders to ensure the issue(s) do not re-occur.
    • Train / retrain personnel to ensure maximum awareness and to prevent future occurrences.
  • Other Duties:
    • Leads the activities of all assigned manufacturing personnel on their shift to effectively deliver the daily operational goals.
    • Identifies, defines, and directs activities related to identifying and addressing manufacturing issues that may negatively impact safety, quality, or productivity.
    • Responsible for managing relevant daily reports and manufacturing performance to established targets and to address deficiencies as necessary.
    • Applies and or supports Lean Manufacturing techniques to improve safety, quality and productivity including 7S, cellular design and operation, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Standard Work definitions, efficient supply procurement, stocking strategies, pull systems, poke yoke and others as necessary.
    • Delivers Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), goals, objectives, and procedures, based on business plan objectives.
    • Works closely with manufacturing personnel and others as necessary to resolve issues related to training and skill requirements, equipment assessments and repairs, dispatch shortfalls and any other issues that negatively impact manufacturing processes.
    • Makes assignments to investigate and resolve process disruptions.
    • Completes or reviews all relevant performance and skill classifications, identifies training gaps, and inefficiencies.
SKILLS NECESSARY:
  • Technical skill in CNC machining and/ or compact press operations, set up, and troubleshooting.
  • Plex – Entering checks, reviewing control plans, finding documents, inspection result review, training matrix.
  • Process knowledge – Molding, sintering, secondary, shipping.
  • Control plans – Knowledge of how to use them, find gaging and instruct operators.

  • Root Cause Analysis Techniques – Ability to properly use Basic 5 Why, 5x3 Why, and Fishbone Analysis.
WORKING LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads all employees in the assigned shift. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Interprets company policies to employees and enforces safety regulations. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work to your team; ensuring quality parts are produced at established production rates.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent, Associates in related skill / field preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rates, percentages and sums. Ability to apply concepts of basic arithmetic and algebra.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Must hold a valid Maine Driver's License.
