Job Summary:
This is a working Supervisor position that safely and effectively manage the rail operation team on site. This position will ensure that the rail team provides a level of service that is in line with customer requirements, and NewCold expectations. That will create and develop a positive & professional culture on site, in line with our values. While ensuring that a positive attitude to Health & Safety is embedded within the team on site.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Train, coach, mentor, and develop direct reports in all areas of performance including metrics and behaviors.
Assist with performance reviews and the interviewing process.
Communicate policy, SOP, & DWI updates through team meetings and one-on-one sessions.
Document coaching and development sessions.
Managing a team in line with company policy and ensuring agreed standards are met.
Contractual customer requirements are met for service and quality
Ensure costs are controlled in line with budgeted expectations
To provide a consistent safe, positive, healthy work environment
Ensuring the shifts are focused on safely achieving elevated levels of customer service, while maintaining a clean work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assigns work to Rail car Load and Unload crew and directs their work processes.
Trains new team members and temporary workers in the rail loading/unloading process.
Consistent / effective communication with the railroad on inbound and outbound loads, dispute any demurrage charges that are incorrect.
Must professionally/effectively communicate with Ops Mgr. and Customer service team on plans or discrepancies.
Must professionally/effectively communicate with all applicable outside contractors.
Bill rails in the applicable platforms, while ensuring they are on time with a focus on accuracy.
Advises Manager of problems that may hinder production.
Working with Planners, Operators and Maintenance to ensure smooth and efficient running of the warehouse.
Identify and create Standard Processes (SOP) on site.
Complete Observations while crews are loading/unloading, and provide management a detailed synopsis, and address with crews any expectations found during Observations.
Inspect inbound loaded rail cars for damage and report to Customer Service and Stock Control.
Inspect outbound railcars to ensure that loads are being sent out to customer standards.
Ensure Loaders are completing paperwork for inbound/outbound loads.
Plan labor efficiently each week in order to achieve expected customer service standards, but also in line with budgeted resource
Continually look to opportunities for improvement
Move rails around via the track mobile
Keep tracker updated
Understand all outstanding track conditions within the yard and their effect on productivity/efficiency.
Diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore to normalcy
Ensure equipment is closed and sealed properly
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have working knowledge of interpersonal relationship skills, including de-escalation of stressful events.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to make independent judgments using sound reasoning skills and knowledge base.
Ability to think and act quickly in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Knowledge of basic WMS operation
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 5 years of rail-related experience required.
Minimum of 2 years of prior leadership experience.
Prior Forklift operating experience required.
Prior use of basic RF scanner with warehouse management system.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pass a pre-hire physical examination.
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Must be able to work effectively in cold freezer environment up to 80% of the time
Safety Requirements:
This position is considered a safety sensitive position.
