Detective Investigator – Environmental Protection Unit – New York City
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking qualified candidates for Detective Investigator positions located in the
Environmental Protection Unit (New York City), within the Investigations Division. Candidates should be hard-
working, self-motivated, and committed to public service on behalf of the people of the State of New York.
Under the direct supervision of the Detective Supervisor of the Environmental Protection Unit, the Detective
Investigators work collaboratively in case-specific investigative teams with Assistant Attorneys General, analysts,
and forensic auditors to conduct highly complex criminal and civil investigations, using the highest level of
professionalism, judgment, and discretion.
Successful candidates will combine traditional investigative experience and skills with strong communication and
interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
Duties performed by investigators may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Minimum Qualifications:

o Conducting complex, long-term investigations.
o Participating in undercover operations, conducting surveillance operations, and in the use of
surveillance technologies.
o Obtaining and executing arrest and search warrants.
o Testifying in grand jury and court proceedings.
o Effectively conducting and managing multiple investigations.
o Investigating financial crimes.
o Investigating public corruption.
Qualifications in addition to those listed above:
New York State.
Performance of the duties may require frequent, unscheduled work on evenings and weekends and requires 24/7
availability. This position is in the exempt class, and incumbents serve at the pleasure of the Attorney General. The Hire
Rate for this position is $73,153. Appointments in New York City receive an additional $3,400 location pay.
