In 2022 Stéphane Denève was named Artistic Director of the New World Symphony. Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Visiting Faculty and Musician Advancement Manager collaborates with members of the Musician Advancement Team on the logistical planning and execution of New World Symphony’s Fellowship coaching activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Visiting Faculty 

  • In consultation with the Associate Dean of Visiting Faculty and Orchestra Manager, coordinate Visiting Faculty coaching activities for NWS Fellows including: 
    • Create contracts, book travel and accommodations, and process payables for Visiting Faculty including Instrumental, Community Engagement, and Leadership and Entrepreneurship Coaches 
    • Coordinate and communicate with NWS Fellows about Visiting Faculty schedules, lessons, and classes
    • Serve as point of contact for Visiting Faculty before, during, and after their visits (including some evening and weekend responsibilities)
    • Oversee individual Fellow lesson budgets, track expenses, and process payments for Visiting Faculty
    • Coordinate Visiting Faculty feedback surveys from Fellows 
    • Prepare reports and track statistical data regarding Fellows, alumni, and Visiting Faculty as needed
    • Assist in managing attendance records for master classes, special events, and other activities as needed 
    • Manage budget and maintain records of all Visiting Faculty activities

Musician Advancement (MA)

  • Assist staff with onboarding new Fellows throughout the season 
  • Assist with staffing necessary in-person events
  • Organize occasional catering/logistics for the Fellows and room setup request needs
  • Share in administrative responsibilities of facilitating weekly department meetings and organizing departmental storage and filing systems (occurs on a rotating basis for all MA team)
  • Manage two Fellow-led roles: Gigmeister and Festmeister 
    • Answer specific external gig-related questions
    • Onboard new Gigmeister as needed 
    • Coordinate with Festmeister Committee to reimburse expenses for designated institutional Fellow-led gatherings 
  • Perform other job-related duties as needed 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one to three years of experience in an administrative role; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact positively and sensitively with a wide variety of people in various settings
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with ArtsVision is desired
  • Knowledge of classical music is desired 
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • Passion for the mission of the New World Symphony 
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends 
  • Ability to work in-person at the New World Center for coaching activities and other NWS events
