New World Symphony is Hiring a Part-time College Track Mentorship Program Manager Near Miami, FL

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 

The College Track Mentorship Program Manager collaborates with members of NWS's Musician Advancement Team on the logistical planning and execution of the organization's College Track Mentorship Program (CTMP) activities. The CTMP studio serves up to ten (10) young classical instrumental musicians (grades 8-12) from backgrounds underrepresented and underserved in classical music. Each student receives resources necessary to apply and be admitted to the college, conservatory, or music program of their choice. Students chosen for the CTMP are matched with an NWS Fellow who provides weekly lessons and mentorship.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

In consultation with the Director of Community and Equity Impact, manage the NWS College Track Mentorship Program by: 

  • Maintaining Mentorship Lessons calendar of events 
  • Recruiting potential student applicants (grades 8-12) from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds 
  • Developing an agreement for students, families, and Fellows
  • Recruiting Fellows as teacher mentors
  • Hosting weekly check-ins with CTMP students and monthly check-ins with Fellow mentors 
  • Designing and implementing a customized plan for each student to achieve their musical and educational goals, including necessary financial support 
  • Creating a training plan for participating Fellows to develop their teaching and mentorship skills
  • Coordinating in-person training activities for Fellows and students with Visiting Faculty
  • Tracking budget for each student 
  • Being in regular communication with students and their families
  • Guiding students through the summer music festival and college application processes as appropriate and monitoring the logistics surrounding their attendance after acceptance
  • Managing logistics for juries and producing end-of-year recital for all participating students
  • Documenting the curriculum and progress of each student for reporting purposes 
  • Participating in donor stewardship for program funding 
  • Processing reimbursements and payables for the CTMP
  • Staffing CTMP events in-person

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one to three years of experience in an administrative role; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact positively and sensitively with a wide variety of personalities in various settings
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Knowledge of classical music 
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion 
  • Passion for the mission of the New World Symphony 
  • Experience as a mentor and in navigating the college admissions process is desired 
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends 
  • Ability to work in-person for CTMP events 
  • Part-time schedule will vary between 15 and 25 hours per week throughout the academic year; 5 hours per week in the summer
