Deputy Grassroots Organizing Director
New Virginia Majority (NVM) is Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization. POSITION TYPE: Full-time
LOCATION:
(one of three locations) Ability to work on site currently hybrid 2days/week in one of our Virginia Offices if/when COVID-19 conditions permit (NOVA, RVA, VA BEACH)
DESCRIPTION:
New Virginia Majority is hiring a full-time Deputy Grassroots Organizing Director. This work involves supervising and working with lead and community organizers and member leaders on specific issue campaigns, base-building and member / leader development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help Lead New Virginia Majority’s multi-issue campaigns, supervising lead community organizers, issue campaigns and mobilizations to build leaders and power in working class communities of color across urban areas of Virginia.
- Support actions, trainings and mobilization opportunities in order to activate members and activists.
- Develop the leadership of key staff and leaders as they participate and lead local and statewide campaigns.
- Develop the consciousness of members through popular education, reflection, and leadership development.
- Supervise assigned organizing staff.
- Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation.
- Participate in building campaign coalitions and key relationships with campaign related allies.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed to New Virginia Majority’s mission of social, gender, racial and economic justice.
- Provide support to leadership organizing organizing.
- At least 4 years paid organizing experience, leading and executing issue campaigns successfully.
- At least 1 year of full time experience supervising and developing community organizers.
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy.
- Self-motivated and works well both independently and as a team.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects.
- Ability to take direction and constructive feedback.
- Experience organizing in / with communities of color, including immigrants.
- Driver’s license and access to a car.
- A minimum one-year commitment to the position.
- Bilingual English and Spanish proficiency preferred but not required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary range is $62,000-$72,000, commensurate with experience with excellent benefits.
Excellent benefits package, including medical, vision, dental. NVM cover 100% of the individual cost and 75% of the family cost for medical, dental, life and short-term disability insurance for our full time employees and we provide transportation and cell phone allowances every month. Additionally, we provide family and medical leave, paid parental leave, 403b (retirement plan) employer match, acurrable vacation and sick leave and we offer flex-time and telework options for our staff.
