New Star is Hiring a DSP - Day Services Near Chicago, IL
Join our team. This is a days position, Monday through Friday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for the DSP position include:
This position is responsible for daily transportation of consumers, development and implementation of daily programming that focuses on consumer choice, community based activities, and promoting independence. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Plan, implement, and assist consumers with daily programming that is community based and supports social, recreational, and leisure skills, communication skills, personal safety skills, employment related skills, appropriate behavior. All programming is based on consumer choice.
- Plan and implement opportunities that provide for new experiences in the community
- Assist with and/or perform personal care as needed for each individual consumer
- Responsible for assisting consumers in the achievement of their goals and outcomes
- Efficiently execute all consumer programs, including approved behavior plans set forth by outside agencies
- Accurately and continuously complete, maintain, and submit all documentation relating to consumer attendance, goals, outcomes, and behavioral data, etc.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of documentation, including incident and injury reports
- Transport consumers to and from the day program, as well as to community based activities
- Completes all van driver duties as stated in the van driver job description
- Participate in team meetings and advocate for the consumers we serve
- Ensures the health, safety, and well-being of the consumers served at all times
- Observes safe job practices and maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Participate in professional training designed to upgrade job skills and facilitate program development
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements (e.g. Sitting, Standing, Lifting, Pushing, Pulling, Climbing):
- Must be able to assist with hygiene needs of consumers (toileting and showering)
- Must be able to push a wheelchair, operate hoyer/van lifts, sit to stands, etc.
- Must be able to continuously move with minimal resting periods
- Must be able to move and position a minimum 50 lbs.
- Ability to identify and respond quickly to the needs of the consumers and program.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Possess an 8th grade literacy level
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and satisfactory driving record
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Current CPI certification
- Must become and maintain DSP certification
- Must become and maintain Pace certification
- Ability to relate a positive image to consumers, their families, and the community
- Ability to work cooperatively with peers, supervisors, and outside providers
- Ability to exhibit flexibility to changing situations and be able to adapt as necessary
