NEW LIFE CENTERS CHICAGOLAND NFP is Hiring a Director of Food Distribution Services Near Chicago, IL

Position Summary 

The Director of Food Distribution position is full-time, 40 hours per week (exempt, benefits available) and will primarily take place at our Little Village location. The Director of Food Distribution will supervise a team of Food Pantry Assistants, Coordinators, administrative staff, Case-managers and volunteers at all of NLC’s Food Pantry locations. The Director of Food Distribution is responsible for the efficiency and safety of the daily operations of our NLC food pantry. Will require some local travel (reimbursable). Pay commensurate with experience. This position is in-person. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Trains, motivates, and monitors team and volunteer progress. 
  • Assesses and orders food and other pantry needs. 
  • Validates invoices from the food bank. 
  • Oversees multi-sites. 
  • Provides/retains reports of activities and food distribution. 
  • Ensures safety and compliance with all public health guidelines. 
  • Communicated with administration for purchases when necessary. 
  • Leads the coordination of set-up and tear-down of food distribution when appropriate. 
  • Addresses any resident/staff concerns that may occur during pantry hours. 
  • Ensures maintenance of site equipment and food pantry sites. 
  • Delegates tasks as necessary to other team members. 
  • Oversees forklift usage and safety by trained staff only. 
  • Participates in partner tours as necessary. 
  • Assesses and creates necessary procedures for safety and efficiency as needed. 
  • Clearly communicates goals and objectives to team and maintains staff accountability. 
  • Serves as a liaison and representative of the NLC food pantry with local residents, partners, social service agencies, and funders. 
  • Produces documents, receipts and correspondence regarding activities and progress as necessary for consistent evaluation of program and timely report submittal. 
  • Provides regular follow up with staff to meet goals and maintain team wellness. 
  • May create performance plans with team members to increase positive personal development and training as needed. 
  • Assists in annual budget process. 
  • Approve credit card reports and timecards. 
  • Supervision includes on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings. 
  • Supports the development of relationships with partner organizations to help team build a “warm referral” network for linkages. 
  • Maintains accuracy of budget and spending plan and assures team is spending on target. 
  • Participates in required evaluations and audits. 
  • Assures accurate documentation of daily inventory and leads end-of-year inventory. 
  • Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values. 
  • Attends required meetings and trainings. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided. 
  • Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases. 
  • Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check. 
  • Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check. 
  • Must have a working phone and phone number. 
  • One year experience working in the human services field in a capacity that involves direct services to at-risk youth. 
  • Cross-cultural competency. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Must be willing to be trained, and proficiently utilize database(s) and information tracking systems relevant to duties. 
  • Must keep confidentiality of participant information. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, good driving record, access to a vehicle. Subject to driving background check. 
  • General knowledge of sports. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
