Position Summary:The position is principally responsible for provisioning customers andmaintaining the voice and data connectivity within a Cisco UnifiedCommunications (UC) system environment and data-network environment. Thisincludes configuration of customer VoIP and analog telephones and gateways,Unity Voicemail, troubleshooting customer and system problems, coordinatecircuit installation and repairs with telecommunications providers. Thisposition is responsible for performing adds, moves, and changes with telecommunicationscabling including terminating cabling on network patch panels and telephoneblocks, assisting the end-user customer device setup.
The position is responsible for collaborating with and supervising vendortechnicians, managing the student employee technicians as well as providingtechnical guidance to more junior positions. The position exhibits goodproblem-solving ability and resourcefulness and is competent to work on fairlycomplex telecommunications issues with only general supervision.

Essential Functions:1. Responsible for managing and installing the campus wide voice-mail system, connecting data circuits, activating mailboxes and performing backups of systems. Programs and installs new extensions, relocates and changes programming of existing extensions.
2. Repairs, monitors and reports problems with voice circuits on NJIT UC system, Verizon and Windstream systems and repairs data circuits.
3. Coordinates with outside contractors to schedule for wire, HVAC and electrical installations. Oversees outside contractors during installation in order to assure they meet outlined specifications. Escalate unresolved incidents internally or with external vendors.
4. Responsible for activating high-speed ports, troubleshooting special circuits such as SIP, T1, ISDN, activating fiber-optic cabling, and coordinating repairs with appropriate vendors.
5. Responsible for mounting and maintaining network and telephone equipment in equipment racks located in IT rooms throughout the campus. Terminate and test telephone and network cable on telephone blocks and network patch panels.
6. Help program, install and test ethernet connections, switches and electronics, for adds moves and changes as well as new building construction and renovation.
7. Installing cabling for events and special projects.
8. Evaluates and assesses all communications rooms on campus for expansion of voice and data infrastructure.
9. Troubleshoots and administers analog and Voice over IP phones with Cisco Unified Communications solutions, resolve any hardware and software issues related to Cisco UC.
10. Assists in evaluation and planning new services including hardware, software and new technologies related to UC. Participates as a team member in large systems voice and data implementation projects.
11. Training and supervising student employees with UC and Data projects.
12. Maintains proper documentation for change control and for audit purposes.
13. Apply technical troubleshooting skills to test reported incident and resolve them in a timely manner.
14. Plans for and responds to service outages and other problems within the university enterprise IT infrastructure. Resolves Level I and Level II incidents and service requests reported to the IST Service Desk.

Prerequisite Qualifications:• High School Diploma
• A , Cisco UC training or comparable training or certifications
• 3 years of progressive experience in Unified Communications/PBX user administration and data communications installation
• Strong grasp of networking fundamentals
• Excellent communication skills
• At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications: • A Bachelor's degree in telecommunications or a related field.
• Proficiency in Windows systems.
• Experience with change control in an ITIL structure
