This position will clinically and independently review adverse events submitted by licensed New Jersey health care facilities to ensure they meet the statutory definition of a serious preventable adverse event. Clinically review submitted Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to ensure requirements for successful completion are completed. Collaboratively, develop and implement methods to promote Internal Consistency in the event and RCA Reviews, including validation of data elements in the Patient Safety database.
Via clinical and patient safety knowledge, facilitate the educational process and supportive activities for the RCA Workshops and conduct of other educational activities. Perform administrative duties as needed, including participating when requested in the ongoing maintenance, and upgrades as necessary, of the Patient Safety web-based reporting system. Utilize, assist, and help prepare reports such as the Patient Safety Report System Annual Summary, including staffing or other action recommendations.
Preferred candidates should also possess: A minimum of six (6) years of direct clinical experience in medical/surgical and/or critical care setting. Prior experience with root cause analysis of adverse events and other Quality Improvement activities in a health care setting. A broad-based knowledge of hospital, ambulatory surgery center systems and processes, dialysis processes. Familiarity with state and national best practices in patient safety. Experience in compliance with regulations, standards of practice, policies and procedures and literature review for best practices. Experience with word
processing and database programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Furthermore, this position requires review of Serious Preventable Adverse events and requires a vast understanding and experience with healthcare to include knowledge of acute care illness, clinical management, care plans, teaching and participation with patient safety endeavors. The aim of the Nurse Consultant for PSRS is to help licensed healthcare facilities that are required to report events find root causes and/or processes to minimize risk promoting the health and wellbeing of NJ residents.
This position may be eligible to participate in the Department's pilot telework program, which offers eligible employee the opportunity to work remotely for up to two (2) days per week, as approved by management.
The preferred candidate has extensive bedside experience, is able to show they can critically appraise events and Root Cause Analyses, and communicate with facilities as needed to achieve the requirements as spelled out in N.J.A.C 8.43:E Regulations. Would consider a board-certified NJ licensed physician or licensed certified PA with the same acute care experience.
Salary Range: $82.6K - $117.7K.
