The New Jersey Attorney General’s office is looking for four (4) attorneys with supervisory experience to function as Assistant Section Chiefs for the Division of Law, in the Employment Litigation Section of the Litigation Practice Group located in Trenton, NJ. The positions will be appointed as Deputy Attorneys General 2 with a salary between $114,415.39 to $163,799.20 per year. Salary offered will fall within the range posted and is non-negotiable.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state’s legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.
ABOUT THE DIVISION:
The Division of Law (DOL) serves as primary legal counsel for New Jersey state government. Generally speaking, this work takes three forms: by providing legal advice to the state’s departments and agencies, by defending the state in civil litigation, and by bringing civil lawsuits against individuals, corporations, and other entities that violate the law and harm New Jersey and its residents. Staffed by nearly 500 attorneys, DOL’s responsibilities cover a broad swath of legal issues, including those involving employment, banking, child protection, corrections, education, environmental, finance, health, insurance, taxation, and transportation matters.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under direction of the Section Chief, Assistant Attorneys General and the Deputy Director of the Litigation Practice Group, the Assistant Section Chiefs will:
· Assign and supervise the work of the deputies in the Section;
· Aid in planning and managing the operations of the Section;
· Evaluate the performance of and conduct case file reviews with deputies in the Section;
· Work with and manage outside counsel in employment litigation;
· Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor.
· Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.
· Four (4) years of experience as a practicing attorney,
· one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
OTHER KEY FACTORS:
· Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
· All offers of employment are conditional subject to the applicant agreeing to and then passing a background check that may include fingerprinting.
· Preference will be given to applicants who possess strong employment litigation experience in both State and Federal court with demonstrated ability to handle employment litigation cases as trial counsel.
