TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I

TheState of New Hampshire, Department of Environmental Services, Water Division, Winnipesaukee River Basin Bureau has a full time vacancy fora Treatment Plant Operator I.
Summary:
Assistsin the daily operations of the Winnipesaukee River Basin Program's facilitiesincluding pump stations and collection system to ensure proper operation andcompliance with State and Federal regulations.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree
36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree
54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degree
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma orhigh school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formaleducation may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Two years ofexperience in a waste or water treatment plant or a related industry.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver's license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to perform occasional strenuousactivity, including climbing ladders and heavy lifting. Must work a schedule,which includes weekend and holiday rotation. Must be willing to respond to callbacks and to participate in rotating,on-call duty for snowplowing and SCADA. Must be willing to carry a pager or cell phone to receive
notificationof callbacks. M usthave basic computer literacy for M icrosoft Office Explorer (internet) and Outlook(email) applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferencewill be given for individuals with Grade II or higher wastewater treatmentplant operators license. Preference given to individuals with basic knowledgeof Word and Excel.
Responsibilities:
Performsroutine laboratory analysis of wastewater samples for process control andcompliance.
Makeschanges in the mechanical, physical and/or chemical processes of the treatmentsystem as directed to maintain optimum system operation and makes operationaldecisions in response to problems when supervisory personnel are not readilyavailable to do so.
Identifiesand responds to operational malfunctions or emergencies at the treatment plant,pump stations or within the collection system including any and all of thehazardous conditions that may result in order to protect the facilities andmaintain process efficiency.
Conductsregular inspections to ensure the proper functioning of waste handling and flowmeasuring equipment, and records data relevant to the operation.
Activelyparticipates and supports the WRBP safety program; adhering to all safetypolicies and procedures.
Inspectsand performs repairs, maintenance or adjustments to building and grounds, sewerlines and equipment to assure continuous operation.
Operatesheavy equipment such as a backhoe and dump trucks.
Operatessolids handling and treatment equipment to provide for timely and efficientdisposal.
Continuallyseeks to improve practices to add quality and value in support of theDepartment's mission while identifying and eliminating unnecessary or redundantactions.
