The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Facilities Maintenance and Office Services has a full time vacancy for Mail Clerk I.

Summary:

To collect, sort, weigh and distribute mail in a centralized mail room which supports many organizational units. To perform a variety of physical movement and inventories for

equipment, furnishings and supplies.

Responsibilities:

Collects, sorts, weighs, classifies, stamps and picks up incoming and outgoing mail from the US Post Office, State House Annex mailroom and inter and intra-departmental offices for distribution to the different agencies within DHHS.

Records and maintains the breakdown of the business reply mail coming in for Health and Human Services and verifies all the certified and registered mail receipts coming in from the US Post Office for reporting purposes.

Delivers and picks up Governor and Council contracts, medical records, court records, client and vendor checks, census and lab reports for Health and Human Services divisions, as required.

Picks up and delivers inter and intra-departmental mail according to a regular schedule. Makes daily messenger runs to the other state agencies, USPS and local banks and responds to emergency deliveries as needed.

Computes rates for insured, registered and special delivery mail.

Operates electronic postal scales and mailing equipment.

Drives state vehicles to deliver mail, operates pallet jack and uses other moving equipment as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Six months' experience as a postal clerk or other work requiring a knowledge of postal regulations. Additional years of related work experience may not be substituted for the formal education required by this class specification.

License/Certification: Valid NH driver’s license if required to operate a vehicle to perform job accountabilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

All Applicants must have sufficient strength and be free from disabilities that would prevent lifting of mail sacks and cartons and other related physical tasks.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS:

Working knowledge of United States postal regulations. Fundamental of simple record keeping. Ability to prepare statements and keep postage records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel within the department concerned. Mist be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
