New England Federal Credit Union is Hiring a VP, Consumer Lending Near Montpelier, VT

New England Federal Credit Union/VSECU is hiring for an experienced VP, Consumer Lending! Reporting to the Senior Vice president, Co-Chief Lending Officer-Consumer and Asset Recovery/Collections, the VP of Consumer Lending develops, implements, and oversees the credit union's consumer lending programs, processes, and teams, including direct and indirect lending. This position is responsible for the growth of the Credit Union's consumer loan portfolio by creating a frictionless member experience and through delivery of operational excellence in all facets of the
loan origination cycle. In addition, this position will ensure compliance with credit union consumer lending policies; assist in development of consumer lending policy; and manage consumer lending activity to meet credit union goals and objectives.

Specific duties include:

  • Responsible for overseeing the Consumer lending Department in meeting organizational objectives and expectations. This includes portfolio growth, product development, streamlined operations, and adaptation to market conditions to increase member engagement. Develops, proposes, gains acceptance for and implements consumer lending program policy and strategy; leads activity related to new consumer lending product development. Develops and recommends changes to rates, risk models, underwriting standards, programs, policies, instant approval parameters, and procedures as appropriate to achieve desired production levels and credit quality. Collaborates with Asset Recovery/Collections to adapt to market conditions and ensure consistency in applying underwriting standards.
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to all areas of responsibility including origination, processing, underwriting, and closing/funding. Works collaboratively and across the organization with managers, supervisors, and staff involved in the origination, fulfillment, and servicing of consumer loans, to ensure accurate, responsive, and timely review, processing, underwriting, funding, and reporting of loans. Collaborates with Green/Impact Lending to develop and implement programs that are aligned with our strategic impact objectives.
  • Oversees the operational systems, processes and procedures to maximize service levels by reducing or eliminating unnecessary processes and documentation, while enhancing communications and timely follow through. Ensure that systems, processes, and guidelines including data management and reporting are fully leveraged to meet department goals, service expectations, and that department staff are receiving what they need to be successful in their work. Ensure audit requests are fulfilled and any recommendations resulting from exams and audits are implemented. Collaborates with all key stakeholders in the execution of strategic and operational activities. Exercises management level loan review and decisioning authority as needed. Supervises AVP, Consumer Loan Operations.
  • Oversee the underwriting and sales functions of the department with a strong emphasis on strategic development of department and a focus on the credit union and community needs. Ensure that the process for considering new or updated products is inclusive of lending department and organizational stakeholders and meets credit union goals. Responsible for developing the consumer loan portfolio with a balance between profitability and appropriate risk, including product line concentrations. Supervisors the AVP, Consumer Loan Sales.
  • Ensures staff are educated, trained, and actively participating in NEFCU Member Relationship Development and Lender Development Programs. Drives success of program by nurturing environment of coaching, mentoring, and holding staff accountable to goals and by working with managers & training resources to educate, measure, and reward staff for appropriate sales and use of these products.

Qualifications:

  • Eight years to 10 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
  • The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust.
  • Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting consumer and student loans.
  • Knowledge of consumer loan policies, procedures, products, and services.
