The Expanded Education department was created in 2022 to support non-degree programs and learning opportunities provided by the institution. Made available to a dynamic variety of musicians spanning every age, ability level, and geographical location around the world, we welcome musicians with interest in classical, jazz, and contemporary musical backgrounds and those wanting to explore music in novel contexts and in cross-disciplinary ways. For the aspiring musician, NEC prepares students with a versatile skill set that reflects our rapidly evolving musical world.

We are always looking for interested candidates but do not always have positions available for faculty in all instruments. We will keep any applicant's information on file and will reach out as applicable when faculty positions open up. Positions are most likely to open up in the late spring with the intention to begin teaching the following fall.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction to students within Expanded Education, focusing on specific music disciplines (e.g., voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, composition, music theory, etc.).

  • Develop and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials tailored to meet the needs of students at different skill levels and ages.

  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students, fostering their musical growth, technical skills, and artistic expression.

  • Prepare students for performances, recitals, auditions, and competitions, encouraging their confidence and stage presence.

  • Collaborate with other faculty members and staff to support a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Attend faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development activities to enhance teaching methodologies and stay updated with industry trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in music education, performance, or a related field.

  • Proven expertise and experience in teaching one or more music disciplines with a track record of successful student outcomes.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in music education and a passion for nurturing the artistic growth of young musicians.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, colleagues, and staff.

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students at various skill levels and ages.

  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equity.

  • Previous experience in preparing students for performances, competitions, or auditions is highly desirable.

  • Basic proficiency with technology such as Microsoft and Google suites
