New Dawn Charter Schools is Hiring a High School Math Teacher Near Jamaica, NY

New Dawn Charter High School will provide over-aged and under-credited students 15 - 21 years of age, including those who are English Language Learners and those with special needs, the opportunity to return to school and obtain a high school diploma through a rigorous NYSED standards-based education program.

High-School Math Teacher Responsibilities

  • Teaching Algebra and Personal Finance Courses (including Regents classes)
  • Mandatory development of lesson plans and assessments on the school’s software, working with other teachers for common planning
  • Utilizing data to inform instruction, participating on the School’s Data Team
  • Conducting Regents prep, working to improve relationships with students and improving the school culture, tracking student attendance, maintaining a small mentoring group and possibly running an advisory group.
  • Approach learning via growth mindset
  • Be reflective, seek feedback, learn from those around them, and effectively apply feedback
  • Make informed decisions, based on evidence and data, about their lesson planning
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and be familiar with the Common Core State Standards
  • Have a proven track record for planning lessons with clear learning objectives and a means for assessing whether those objectives have been met
  • Have a proven track record of engaging students in their learning
  • Have strong organizational and communication skills
  • Have demonstrated success in tailoring instruction to the needs of diverse learners
  • Be committed to serving all students and respect children from all backgrounds
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals

Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required; advanced degree in education a plus.
  • NYS Certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience; prior urban teaching experience a plus.
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
  • Excellent teamwork, work ethic, and organizational skills.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and verbally.
  • Possess excellent integrity, a gentle spirit, and demonstrate strong moral character and initiative.
  • Demonstrate technological abilities: word processing, data management, and informational retrieval.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Submit a background checks through the New York State Department of Education.'

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,046.00 - $80,000.00 per year
