New College of Florida is Hiring a Student Assistant, Quest For Knowledge Lead Peer Leader Near Sarasota, FL

Description

This position will be the Lead Mentor/Role Model, Resource provider and Facilitator for Learning.

Examples of Duties

Attend Quest for Knowledge Instructor training

Prepare for and lead a 30-minute session during the Instructor training about integrating a Peer Leader into a Quest for Knowledge course

Organize Peer Leader group check-ins (minimum of 2 a semester)

Attend and contribute to Peer Leader training (during orientation week and/or the week after)

Prepare example ideas of out-of-class student gatherings and a list of resources to help Peer Leaders design and organize such gatherings

Organize cross-section student events

Mentor/Role Model

Be approachable and available to students

Model healthy balance between academics and non-academics

Help students engage in responsible decision making

Create and maintain and appropriate professional relationship with students

Demonstrate empathy toward students’ individualized needs and problems

Set the example of a successful student by having a positive attitude, regularly attending class, and actively participating in class activities and discussion

Resource

Connect students to resources on campus and online

Support students’ connection to campus by sharing upcoming events and opportunities at the beginning of class periods and/or electronically

Promote and liaise the relationship between students and instructors

Support other peer leaders through their experience by sharing ideas, strategies, and resources

Facilitator for Learning (POSSIBLE tasks, as determined in consultation with your course instructor)

Contribute to the design of the course syllabus by providing suggestions for topics, presentations, sequencing and course assignments

Build community within the classroom

Read and provide feedback on student journals/blogs

Facilitate class discussions

Encourage reflection and growth

Lead meaningful and engaging class activities in and outside of the classroom

Facilitate lessons, commonly on topics such as academic advising, contract system, student involvement

Share any skills, strategies, tools, and resources that you’ve found to be helpful to be a successful New College student

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Current NCF student

Strong leadership skills

Strong organizational skills

Strong interest in helping first year students be successful at New College
