The New Canaan YMCA is home to a vibrant Aquatic Center including 2 full size competitive pools and one family/therapeutic pool. Programs on-site include swim lessons, aquatic group exercise classes, Masters Swimming, lap swim, free swim and comprehensive Swim, Dive and Artistic Swim programs.

With all of this activity, we are looking for a full time Lifeguard Coordinator to help oversee lifeguard schedules, act as a point of contact for our team of part-time lifeguards, and provide pool coverage as needed.

This position is a full-time (benefit eligible) position reporting directly to our Director of Aquatic Operations and Safety.

KNOW HOW:

• Candidates must be certified as a Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor, as well as be CPR certified.
• Due to state regulations for summer programs, this position is only available to candidates age 21 or older.
• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience preferred
• Must have solid problem solving skills, excellent communication, and demonstrate critical thinking

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

• Ensure a safe environment for all members and lifeguards
• Monitor lifeguard certifications and track when renewals are required
• Engage with Aquatic Department staff, setting an example through proper attendance, protocol and leadership
• Oversee scheduling and coordinating of lifeguard staff and assist with pool schedules
• Serve as Waterfront Director for summer day camp (Camp Y-Ki)
• Assist with cleaning the pools and pool decks, log chemical readings and water temperatures, track daily usage
