New Braunfels Independent School District is Hiring a 2024-2025 Special Education Facilitator Near New, TX

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for facilitating ARD meetings, assisting in the development of the students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and completion of required ARD paperwork. Communicates with campus staff and parents before and after ARD Committee meetings in ARD preparation/follow-up activities. May serve more than one campus.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university (Master’s degree preferred)

Valid Texas teacher’s certification in special education

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Experience in implementing the ARD/IEP process

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work and communicate effectively with all ARDC members, including parents

Ability to establish and maintain relationships with teachers and administrators

Ability to utilize electronic data management system

Demonstrate knowledge of basic computer operations

Communicate with colleagues on a regular basis

Strive to maintain and improve professional competence

Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for educating students with disabilities

Ability to attend to detail

Experience:

Minimum of five years of successful teaching in a special education classroom

Experience with computer- based special education documentation system

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

ARD Facilitation

  • Attends, schedules/assists in scheduling all Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings and notify committee members of the ARD meeting.
  • Utilize the district-provided ARD agenda to ensure all required items are covered and committee members are prompted to report to the committee appropriately.
  • Prepare and maintain ARD meeting calendar for assigned campus(es), share calendar with campus staff, related services and district staff. Notify all appropriate staff and attendees of changes/cancellations of meetings
  • Ensures that federal/state timelines are met with respect to functions of ARD Committee meetings; requests for additional assessments and required timelines set by ARD Committee.
  • Monitors ARD paperwork completed by campus personnel, completes and turns in ARD paperwork to official audit file, completes applicable ARD supplements with accompanying data collected by campus staff (i.e., all IEPs, BIPs, Transition etc.).
  • Completes lists, forms, reports, PEIMS forms, and data required by the Special Education Office by the due dates (e.g., transportation forms, ESY forms, October counts, etc.)
  • Provides for systematic communication among special and general education personnel (with respect to ARD meetings and decisions).
  • Follows the beginning and end of the year procedures for yearly ARD calendar, folder request, audit folder review, folder exchanges, assist with preparing IEPs, accommodations and BIP distribution.
  • Assists campus administrator(s) to ensure compliance with mandates for due process guaranteed to students with disabilities by state/federal law; ensures compliance with local policies and procedures outlined for this population
  • Secures district interpreter from translation services when needed.
  • Ensures that case managers progress monitor student’s goals and objectives and assist with the distribution of progress reports.
  • Facilitates monthly Special Education Department staff meetings at the campus level regarding relevant professional development.
  • Serves as a liaison between parents, school and the special education department.
  • Maintain neutrality in facilitating ARD meetings while maintaining compliance with district-approved procedures.
  • Follow all beginning of the year and year-end procedures related to job assignment
  • Incorporate conflict management techniques when disagreements arise
  • Support District and department goals
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend professional training to develop and enhance job-related skills, such as special program effectiveness, STAAR/EOC assessment, technology, communication, ARD Facilitation,, etc.

Policy, Reports, Law and Other

  • Keep informed of and complies with policies established by federal and state law, special program requirements, Texas Education Agency, State Board of Education rule, and the local NBISD board policy.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized data, reports, records, and other documents as required.
