Nevada Copper is Hiring an Underground Operations Supervisor Near Yerington, NV

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Underground Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising personnel and equipment and ensuring that all aspects of the underground operations are being met and optimized to achieve the Company s objectives. Prioritize and assign personnel as work requires. Supervise all unit operations, coordinate with Maintenance to ensure equipment performs as required and coordinate with engineering and site contractors to ensure compliance with mine plans. Develop and train employees to standards required for safe and efficient equipment operation and the safe performance of all work activities underground.

Accountability:

The Underground Operations Supervisor reports directly to the Underground Operations General Supervisor in all aspects of underground operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead by example to ensure a collaborative approach to safety interdependency
  • Oversee an underground mining crew to safely and effectively complete underground operations objectives
  • Oversee the safety of all underground operations, recognizing the health and safety hazards that exist in the underground environment and correct as soon as possible
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in a healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable manner
  • Conduct frequent workplace inspections
  • Conduct daily tool-box safety talks and encourage safe work habits
  • Evaluate, prioritize, plan, and assign operators to safely complete necessary underground mining operations
  • Partner with maintenance to ensure all PM/PDM s are completed on time
  • Work with maintenance, contractors and engineering departments to ensure daily, weekly and monthly plans are aligned
  • Provide any assigned reports pertinent to the underground operations
  • Formulate, monitor, and ensure employee compliance of policies and procedures
  • Occasionally use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other mechanical instruments and equipment to assist operations personnel in operating mine equipment and property
  • Managing the way in which hourly and salary employees interact and communicate in a manner that provides positive support for the organization top to bottom
  • Complete organization and planning of manpower, materials, and equipment. Assist in developing and monitoring work schedules, monitor and control costs within budget parameters

Knowledge/Education:

The Underground Operations Supervisor must be technically proficient with the following attributes:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of underground mining environment required, preferably with large long hole stope mining.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience at a supervisory level required.
  • Strong experience with safety and health in the mining industry with a demonstrable track record of delivering safety results
  • An in-depth understanding of underground mine development and planning
  • An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards
  • An in-depth understanding of underground equipment

Skills/Abilities:

The Underground Operations Supervisor must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of hourly and salary employees or organization
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Adaptability to work effectively in a context of change, manage conflicting demands, and adapt to a variety of situations and individuals
  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks with minimal supervision
  • Strong computer skills (i.e., MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Operate 2-way radio and telephone to support communications with other underground personnel

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Legally operate a vehicle requiring a valid driver s license
  • Lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs. in weight
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Maintain focus under stressful circumstances, pressure, or deadlines
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment

The incumbent is expected to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
