Nevada Copper is Hiring an Underground Maintenance Superintendent Near Yerington, NV

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Underground Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the safe maintenance of the mechanical/electrical maintenance activities associated with underground mobile maintenance fleet. Accountable to provide oversight and direction to the mobile and electrical maintenance team, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of work.

The Underground Maintenance Superintendent will ensure that predictive maintenance concepts and systems are implemented consistently, at site to achieve budgeted availability, production, and cost targets in compliance with regulatory, safety, health and environmental standards and commitments.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Underground Maintenance Support:

  • Optimize preventive existing maintenance plans and programs thereby reducing downtime related to equipment and fixed asset.
  • Support operational objectives by minimizing risks and maximizing value and focus on Safety, quality, and cost management.
  • Responsible for implementing a program that provides regular inspections of all maintenance area and facilities to ensure compliance with legislation, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead maintenance reliability initiating to include, but not limited to; asset management, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, workflow development to achieve 80/20 planned vs. reactive expectation.
  • Reviews, develops, defines, and implement cost effective practices for on-site, off-site, and contracted maintenance services to include capital improvement plans, evaluate mobile maintenance needs, and operating systems for needed repair and maintenance.
  • Coordinates with UG Mine Manager to develop mine/department operation and capital budgets. Develops justifications, specifications and bid evaluation for capital purchases in conjunction with Supply Chain, monitors and approves contractor work. Monitors department budget to ensure budgets are delivered.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve maintenance systems to ensure that all production targets are delivered according to plan.
  • Provide leadership in the effective implementation and support of a work order-based, preventive maintenance program.
  • Direct the UG maintenance technicians, maintenance planners, electrical technicians, in the effective coordination of maintenance and/or electrical including shutdowns for major work, establishing priorities, preventative maintenance and assuring that areas are ready for maintenance.
  • Coordinates component repairs, equipment modifications and fabrication of materials or parts with outside repair/supply facilities.
  • Accountable for the preventive maintenance and repair of both surface and underground mining equipment with a periodic focus on equipment & electrical maintenance.
  • Monitor and continually improve reporting systems to support equipment optimization strategies.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure uninterrupted vendor supply and adequate inventory for maintenance and electrical components are available including critical spares.
  • Implement performance management processes to support optimal employee performance and to correct substandard performance.
  • Manage succession planning within the team to ensure progressive training, development, and advance of employees.
  • To be pro-active in all aspects of maintenance safety, efficient utilization of resources, continuous improvement concepts and projects; and to encourage teamwork between disciplines and departments.

Health and Safety:

  • Provide employee with a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring proper training, following, and understanding of the operating procedures, PPE, operation of equipment and effective communication.
  • Demonstrate visible leadership with continual inspection of personnel site safety cards, and routine inspection of the condition of slings, shop tools and portable ladders used across the site.
  • Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices.
  • Participate and/or lead health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required.

Knowledge/Education:

The Underground Maintenance Superintendent must be technically proficient with the following attributes:

  • Minimum seven (7) to ten (10) years mining experience with prior maintenance supervisor experience required.
  • Requires working knowledge of underground mining experience, including safety, production, maintenance, equipment, staff utilization and budgeting.
  • Familiarity with maintenance procedures, including preventive non-destructive diagnostic methodologies, repair, and machinery application in an underground mining environment, such as bolters, forklifts, jumbos, etc..
  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment for leadership, coaching and mentoring the team.
  • Have well developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with others required including process operations, technical specialists, site operators, contractors, supply chain and other functions.
  • Proven business improvement experience and able to lead strategic planning initiatives.
  • A passion for innovative concepts that can transform the business.

The Underground Maintenance Superintendent must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Advanced computer skills applying Microsoft Office and ERP Systems
  • Able to work independently, as well as an effective member of the management team.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels within the company.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver s license.
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms.
  • Walk on uneven ground.
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent work schedule is typically a 40 hour/week schedule. During the initial ramp up, additional work time will be required to meet the goals and objectives of the business. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
