Nevada Copper is Hiring a Paste Backfill Supervisor Near Yerington, NV

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Paste Backfill Supervisor will be responsible support and advance the paste backfill project, operational readiness, commissioning, and transition to supervision of all aspects of mine paste backfill placement underground, including the supervision, communication, and coordination of and with the surface paste backfill plant. Work practices must comply with local government and statutory requirements, in addition to company safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Past Project and Operations Support:

  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety by maintaining a clean work area and ensuring that unsafe work practices are avoided through regular communication.
  • Supervise, mentor and train the work force to achieve consistent operation from the facilities, in conjunction with cross shifts, achieving world class levels of performance. Define and communicate work requiring follow up by others with respect to unsafe work conditions, equipment repair, or conditions that may limit production capacity.
  • Inspect the work area and ensure that operator checks are consistent and thorough, to ensure compliance with company safety and environment standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical and practical input into the design, engineering, and plant construction activities.
  • Supervise the construction of the underground distribution system.
  • Advance the operational readiness activities for the Project, including the development of paste backfill standards and procedures, assist with the recruitment of surface and underground team and all associated training.
  • Supervise the scheduling of underground mobile equipment and surface paste activities.
  • Provide tactical leadership and supervision for the surface and underground paste backfill team.
  • Provide supervision to the surface paste plant operators, in liaison with the Process Supervisors, including communicating the specifications of paste and requirement as communicated by Engineering.
  • Implement and maintain Paste backfill standards and procedures and ensure those standards are achieved by the entire backfill team.
  • Contribute to mine production planning/scheduling and liaise with technical services to identify paste backfill constraints and opportunities.
  • Review surface paste and underground distribution system to ensure capability to meet backfill plan and requirements.
  • Monitor Paste Plant consumables to ensure sufficient supplies of cement and binder are provided to meet backfill plan.
  • Oversee QA/QC of the backfill process (plant, distribution) to ensure design specifications including bulkhead, plug and all elements for proper backfill.
  • Conduct and contribute to Paste backfill continuous improvement and optimization projects.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance statistics and cost reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations to maintain our license to operate.
  • Ensure training and development of the Paste backfill team.
  • Liaison with and between Engineering and technical services, underground operations, and process operations.

Knowledge/Education:

The Paste Backfill Supervisor must be technically proficient with the following attributes:

  • Minimum three (3) years prior experience in a supervisory role
  • Proficient knowledge and operating experience involving grinding, flotation, thickening and filtering.
  • Demonstrates a genuine passion to provide exceptional leadership, coaching and mentoring to team.

Skills/Abilities:

The Paste Backfill Supervisor must demonstrate the following skills:

  • General knowledge of health & safety, mining, maintenance and a clear understanding of accounting codes for budgetary purposes
  • Knowledge of all phases of copper processing as it pertains to associated equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Able to quickly identify and correct operational problems.
  • Effectively communicate with all support groups.
  • Able to work independently, as well as an effective member of the management team.
  • Well-developed communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels within the company.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions of position.

Physical Demands:

The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license
  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms
  • Walk on uneven ground
  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

The incumbent is expected to work on a rotating 12-hour day shift/night shift schedule. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
