Neighborhood Learning Alliance is Hiring a Summer Camp Staff, K-5 Elementary Near Pittsburgh, PA

Title: Summer Camp Staff, K-5 Elementary

Reports to: Site Supervisor

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Employment Status: Full-Time Seasonal (June - August)

Hourly Rate: $15.00

Work Location: In-person - Assigned K-5 Summer Camp Site (Pittsburgh Concord, Pittsburgh Miller,

Pittsburgh Arsenal)

Start Date: Week of June 17th

Camp Dates: June 24- August 2nd (Six Weeks), Monday – Friday

Camp Hours: 8:00 am – 3:45 pm

Hiring: Dependent on FBI, Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and mandated reporter training (This is

provided by the organization)

The K-5 Little Warriors After School Program and Summer Camp Program is designed to empower

students to embrace their genius, establish a sense of community, and explore learning activities that

enhance their health and well-being. This is done through active play, project-based learning, enriched

learning experiences, and field trips. Staff will lead students in academic enrichment, arts, STEM, and

community building activities. In addition, staff members will create a safe and welcoming environment.

The NLA team is hiring staff.

  • Number of Students Per Site: Approximately 35 students.
  • Camp Staffing: The camps will maintain a 12:1 camper to adult ratio.

Job Responsibilities:

? Implement the summer program model.

? Develop students’ skills and interest in STEM (Legos and coding), Reading (digital stories, puppet

shows, Socratic seminars), Math (counting money, budgets, financial literacy, foundation skills).

? Assist with the overall planning and implementation of the daily programming and activities.

? Assist with daily procedures and program structures.

? Lead the academic and recreational components of the summer program.

? Manage student attendance, performance, activities, and positive behavior systems.

? Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program space.

? Develop and support children’s academic and social-emotional needs.

? Attend team meetings as assigned.

? Performs other duties assigned for which the employee is qualified and physically able to

perform. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

Qualifications:

? High school diploma or GED. Some college experience preferred.

? Experience in (or currently studying): education, social work, public service, health careers,

nonprofits.

? Strong communication skills.

? Good interpersonal skills.

? Passion to serving the community and ensuring student success .

? Basic knowledge of using technology (computers, iPad, tablets, projector, etc.).

? Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.

? Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

? Comfortable communicating with elementary school students and families.

? Experience working with diverse populations.
