About the Position

As a Team Lead in the Renewable Substations group, you will manage a team comprised of engineers, drafters, designers, and/or technicians. A Team Leads primary responsibility will be the accurate, timely, and quality completion of Electrical Engineering scopes assigned to the team. The Team Lead will assist in the development of the departments Standard Best Practices (SBPs) and enforcing/implementing them when pertinent. Team Leads will be a mentor and coach to employees on their team and help them grow individually as professionals.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 / year
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Performs detailed design of all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, project and construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Prepares computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power transmission and distribution systems, including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, motor starting, power factor, harmonic analysis, and other related studies. Employee should create a simple hand check to quantify the computer aided results
  • Develops protective relay settings. Set, test, wire, and install relaying and control systems
  • Reviews equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals
  • Seeks opportunities for value engineering and efficiencies in design
  • Assigns work to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff
  • Reviews and verifies the work of engineers, designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy
  • Manages and supports employee development and growth through individualized development plans
  • Supports business development via Seller-Doer, assists with marketing tasks, and prepares proposals as needed
  • Assists with establishing and managing engineering budget and scope expectations. Prepare technical write-up for applicable change orders
  • Reviews submittals for conformance with client specifications and design
  • Provides field assistance, troubleshooting, and observation reports
  • Maintains professional understanding of all applicable Codes and Standards, and construction practices
  • Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships, particularly for communication pertaining to specific assignments and meeting topics
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards
  • Works additional time beyond 40 hours/week to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions, as required
  • Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
  • Checking the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy as required
  • Understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Other job-related responsibilities as assigned

Must Have

  • Education: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE is required, PE is preferred
  • Knowledge and familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, and industrial instrumentation and controls
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • High proficiency with power system software such as DIgSILENT/PowerFactory, EasyPower, ETAP or SKM, CDEGS, and CYMCAP preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and standard computer software
  • Proven record of delivering a high standard of quality work with attention to detail
  • Ability to develop staff through mentoring and coaching
  • A strong command of the English language
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Nice to Have

  • Renewable (solar, wind, BESS, etc.) experience is a plus, but not required
