Near Space Corporation is Hiring an Electrical/Electronics Technician Near Palestine, TX

We Are Seeking Electrical Technicians

As an Electrical Technician, you'll provide support for the design, manufacture, maintenance, integration, and test of electronic systems and/or test equipment throughout balloon life cycle including launch site preparations and support, and mission operations and recovery.

How You Will Contribute (Essential Functions)

Standard Duties

  • Design, fabricate, test, install, modify, troubleshoot, repair, and operate electronic systems and test equipment; maintain electronic equipment, locate and correct defects in electronic assemblies and systems
  • Requisition electronic parts and materials, ensure adequate supply is available; maintain labor and material cost records
  • Ship equipment, supplies, and contract deliverables. Receive incoming equipment and supplies
  • Perform routine hardware and software maintenance and assists in proper upkeep and utilization of systems
  • May operate bench lathes, drills, or other machine tools to fabricate parts such as coils and chassis
  • Prepare project documentation such as change orders, schematics, and wiring diagrams; interpret process control manuals/documentation
  • Coordinate with faculty, researchers, and/or engineers regarding design requirements and application of electronic research equipment

Senior and Mid-level

  • Provide technical assistance in the operation of equipment and purchase of electronic equipment and supplies; develop/direct the set-up of test equipment and testing of new or experimental equipment; analyze performance and reliability and summarize the results
  • Set up standard or complex test apparatus or devise test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance/reliability of prototype/production models
  • Perform routine hardware and software maintenance and assist in proper upkeep and utilization of systems
  • Develop safety procedures relating to electronic fabrication and ensure safe working environment
  • Maintain technical documentation; write technical reports, develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications
  • Supervise other technical personnel; may coordinate the functions of an engineering laboratory
  • Develop or direct the set-up of test equipment and the appropriate testing of new or experimental equipment
  • Coordinate training of subordinates consistent with existing procedures/policies
  • Provide downrange telemetry support for remote and foreign campaigns; provide field supervision for electronics reporting, scheduling, and assignment of work; assure operational sufficiency in quality of workmanship, equipment readiness, and operations of electronic systems and test equipment used in support
  • Participate in design/program reviews 

What You Need To Be Successful

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate; Mid-level & Senior - AA or AS in related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory, and digital and analog circuitry is required
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials used in electronic testing, fabrication, and maintenance is required
  • Skill in soldering, wire wrapping, crimping, component placement, routing of printed circuit design is required
  • Skill in reading schematics / wiring diagrams to perform standardized testing and troubleshooting of circuit is required
  • Skill in record keeping for documentation purposes is required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds is desired

Training and Certifications in the following may be required:

  • Crimp, Cable, and Harness Certification per NASA-STD-8739.4 or Northrop Grumman equivalent process
  • Electrostatic Discharge ESD Control per GPR 8730.6 or Northrop Grumman equivalent process
  • Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies per ANSI / J-STD-001
  • General Safety Awareness
  • Ability to pass NASA training and become certified NASA Ordnance Handler of the device if required
  • SharePoint training as required

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass the RPSc physical (medical) requirements to work in Antarctica
