The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an entry- or mid-level Transportation Planner to assist in the development and implementation of strategies to support economic development, sustainable development, rail initiatives, transportation safety, and air quality initiatives related to goods movement. This posting is for the entry-level Transportation Planner I position. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at https://www.nctcog.org/Careers. The North Central Texas Council of Governments is currently permitting employees to work a hybrid schedule that consists of working part of each week in the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas, and part of each week from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the conduct of elements of system and corridor planning studies
  • Researching and providing assistance in the identification of efficient freight planning solutions for the North Central Texas region
  • Assisting with data analyses for rail-focused projects including rail/road grade crossings
  • Conducting technical analyses related to safety, operations, and traffic and submitting results to supervisor for review
  • Participating in data collection, maintenance, mapping, and analysis activities
  • Drafting various presentations and documents for supervisor review
  • Updating website information
  • Planning and attending meetings, events, and workshops

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desired
  • Transportation/regional planning knowledge/experience, with an interest in goods movement, desired

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., transportation planning, city and regional planning, geography or a related area)
  • One year of job-related experience or less

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $42,347.00 – $50,816.40 per year
