Position OverviewNavistar’s Ergonomics Team has an opening for a Ergonomics Project Engineer. You will be supporting development for all Navistar vehicles ranging from school buses to line-haul tractors.
We are looking with someone that has experience in Ergonomics or Human Factors Engineering, ideally including requirement development, design support and guidance, and analysis of ergonomic attributes such as Visibility, Occupant Packaging, Ingress/Egress, and Occupant Comfort. You will support several simultaneous projects and contribute Navistar’ products meet or exceed targets for Ergonomics attributes.
Navistar is a part of TRATON SE, a global champion of the truck and transport services industry. You will also collaborate with Ergonomics professions from other TRATON brands including MAN and Scania.
Responsibilities- Participate as a member of cross-functional product development teams whose purposes are to design and develop commercial truck products that meet quality, cost, and timing objectives.
- Clearly communicate recommendations for design improvements to design-responsible engineers and suppliers
- Develop vehicle and component level requirements for ergonomic attributes.
- Coordinate design trade-offs between functional engineering groups to achieve ergonomic objectives/targets to ensure the overall usability of the end product
- Oversee the use of human digital modeling software (e.g. Jack or RAMSIS) to evaluate user-vehicle interfaces and develop design recommendations
- Evaluate vehicle designs throughout the product development process to assure compliance with Ergonomic criteria and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist in maintaining an on-site ergonomics lab that will be used to conduct ergonomic evaluations of products and criteria development research.
- Support usability studies as required to evaluate design concepts or to demonstrate compliance with ergonomic criteria.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in activities provided to enhance knowledge
- Maintain knowledge of current and possible future policies, practices, trends, and information affecting their business and organization
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 5 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
Additional Requirements- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills- Background in Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, Human Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, or Ergonomics
- Experience in Automotive or Commercial Vehicle industry
- Experience working with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX, to evaluate 3D models and to provide design guidance
- Direct experience applying human digital modeling software to product design and evaluation
- MS Office experience including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
